The heat has been so unbearable in New York, that I have dreaded going through my cigar review ritual. I kept putting off reviewing a stick, but this morning I could not wait any longer as the week since my last review was more annoying to me then the oppressive heat.
This morning I opened my humidor, closed my eyes and pulled out a stick that was sent to me from a user on Cigarlive.com. So with a Perdomo Habano Corojo in hand I headed to the beach to smoke this beauty and enjoy the scenery and perhaps have something spark some social commentary.
Prelight:
Cypress who sent me this beauty did so by removing the cello. Or perhaps this cigar had no cello to begin with. In fact all the cigars he sent me were cello free. The cigar hails from Nicaragua and was aged for about 2 weeks in my humidor prior to smoking. I cut the cigar with a V-Cut and was happy to see it had a great draw. Other then the cedar scent, I instantly noticed a nutty, hazelnut/almond like taste.
Smoke:
So as groups of people walked past my car headed down to the beach I lit up my cigar. The taste of hazelnut/almonds, and ceder were there for the duration of this smoke. In terms of taste it was a very non-complex cigar. In fact I would recommend it to someone who says they do not get tastes off a cigar like I do. Due to the simplicity of this cigar made it very easy to pick out the flavors.
The negatives of this smoke had to do with the burn. It was uneven, a few times it corrected it self, but more then once I had to give it a little help which could be a incredible no-no if not done correctly. In addition to a bad burn was an very flaky loose ash.
Despite all of this I would smoke one again. It almost reminded me of drinking some frangelica, all I needed was a wedge of lime…
