One of our sponsors Famous Smoke Shop gifted us these cigars back in May, They got burried on the bottom of my humidor and I forgot about them til I reached into the box the other day. Being a fan of the Tempus and the SCR I wanted to see how these compare and here are my thoughts…
Cigar: Alec Bradley Overture
Size: 5 x 50 (Robusto)
Wrapper: Honduras Trojes Viso
Filler: Honduras & Nicaragua
Appearance and Construction (19/20): Like all things Alec Bradley the first thing that catches your eye is the exquisitely designed over sized band of the cigar. But as we know a cigar is much more then a band. Upon inspection this cigar a wrapper that looks like rich chocolate and has only a few thin veins. There is a fair amount of oils on the cigar, and no soft spots. The foot is well packed, and the cigar has a great weight to it.
Flavor & Notes (28/30): The cigar has a few months on it and the prelight notes are explosive. There are some sweet spices, a little bit of oak and some mocha on the draw. The foot of the cigar is a sweet spice and mocha. At this point the cigar is a winner, but can it go the distance. The first third of the cigar reveals notes of wood, bordering on oak. As the first third progress some sweet spices begin to take hold on the cigar. The second third of the cigar the spices and wood are still there, but some espresso notes are picked up as well that become more noticeable as the cigar transitions into the final third of the smoke. The cigar finishes out with some notes of oak and espresso.
Burn/Ash/Draw (21/25): At times the wrapper burned a little uneven, but it never got too much out of control. The ash is a dark and despite flowering some it held on very strong. The draw was flawless.
Overall (22/25): This cigar is available only through our sponsor Famous Smoke Shop and despite it being a budget Alec Bradley, it is definitely an Alec Bradley cigar and well worth the purchase. This smoke would go great with a liquor aged in an oak barrel such as Cognac or Rum.
