Cigar Review: Cubita

Hello everyone, back by popular demand, it’s me “Stew, from the World According to Stew.” Its been quit a long time since I have been asked to post on this site and boy it’s a true honor to be back! Barry contacted me and asked if I could fill in on Monday while he recovers from a bout of sickness, so I said you know I will and the rest it history. So lets give a big shout out to Barry and lets all say a prayer that he recovers fast, because we all miss his awesome reviews. So with that said lets get to todays cigar, which is the Cubita Spanish Market Selection.  This is a new cigar for me so lets find out what its all about shall we.

WRAPPER: Honduran

BINDER & FILLER: Dominican / Dominican & Nicaraguan

Length/Ring: 5.25 X 52

Shape: Robusto

Strength: Full

My Observations: The wrapper is very nice with its dark oily brown colored leaf wrapper. On a closer inspection, I found the wrapper to have small none noticeable veins and it appeared that the roller who created this cigar did an exceptional job. On my finger touch inspection, I found no soft spots and the cap was place with true craftsmanship. To put it plain and simple, its a well crafted cigar with nothing to complain about.

Cigar Label: Very nice! The color scheme which consist of red, gold, and black blended together terrifically!

Snip & Pre-Draw & Toasting: I went with a straight cut.

  • The pre-draw was excellent and I immediately tasted a nice spicy peppery taste and I knew I was in for a full body ride.
  • The Toasting phase was excellent with the use of my double torch lighter and now we are underway!

Flavors: The 1st third of this cigar consisted of a blast of pepper and spice that lets you know that this creature is a heavy hitter. The 2nd third continues with the spicy blast but is now joined with leather and earth. The final third continues with these flavors so remember this is not a cigar for the new beginner or for those who usually stay in the mild to medium range.

Draw and burn line: The draw was perfect throughout my smoke and required no touchups.

Price? Approximately $4.00

Drink of choice? Hot Coffee

Smoke Time? About an hour and half (go slow or you will pay!)

Liked it? Yes.

Recommend it? Yes.

Hint? Remember its a heavy hitter!

Score: 92 points.

Final Note: It was great to be back!

Until Next Time
