Cigar Review: Tatuaje RC 233
I decided on New Years day to light up a cigar that was gifted to me by Tony over at a smokescore.com. The Tatuaje RC 233 is huge 9″ perfecto that has a limited production. . The RC stands for Retro Cuban and the 233 is the cigars length in millimeters. Other then that I could not find much information on these sticks so let’s go on to the review.
Cigar: Tatuaje RC 233
Size: 9 x 55 (Perfecto)
Appearance and Construction (18/20): This mammoth perfecto comes in cello and is half wrapped in aluminum. The cigar has a band with the classic tatuaje logo and states to the side of it RC233. The wrapper features an amazing amount of oils, and although it does have a lot of veins, all of them are very thin. The cigar is expertly rolled with a gorgeous looking perfecto tip and an exquisite cap. Despite being 9 x 55 the cigar does not have a heft weight to it but there are no soft spots to it at all.
Flavor & Notes (28/30): When I smoke a cigar I have a hard time picking up a note off of the wrapper. The RC 233 has an amazing mocha that comes right off the leaf. The prelight draw offers a nice sweet black cherry. The first third of the cigar has a sweetness to it with with well defined notes of nuts and coffee. The second smoke remains the same with notes of coffee and nuts. As we approach a the final third of the cigar the stick has a great aroma. There are some spices present especially through the nose. The cigar has a great finish nutty finish.
Burn/Ash/Draw (23/25): The cigar burns almost even throughout the smoke, the ash however was a little bit flaky and medium gray in color. The ash didn’t hold well, and for me that is a disappointment but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t really mean much. The draw like most perfecto sticks started out tough, but one I got past the nipple it was perfect.
Overall (20/25): The cigar is a bit pricey and despite having great flavors it is a little one dimensional. Because of that I have a hard time justifying the price tag. The cigar however is very enjoyable but there are better tatuaje cigars out there for less money.
