Cigar Review: AVO LE10

A week ago I was contacted by the brand manager of AVO Cigars with the press release for the new AVO Limited Edition 2010 cigar, also known as the AVO LE10. Mr. Simon then reached out to me a few days later saying he
was sending me a care package of AVO Cigars for my enjoyment. Some of these cigars will make it into review, the first being the AVO LE10 which is based upon two samples.

Cigar Review: La Flor Dominicana Air Bender

La Flor Dominicana Air Bender

The La Flor Domincana Air Bender is the latest release from Litto Gomez and it comes in four sizes. I hear the name is a tribute to Litto’s passion for Kung Fu but I have not been able to confirm that. It is also the first full release to use the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that graced the limited edition Salomon.

The four sizes that this cigar will be released in are the Matatan (5 × 50), Guerrero (6.25 × 54), Maestro (5.5 × 52) and the Valiente (6.25 × 60). The price of this cigar rangers from #7.00 to $8.50 before local takes. La Flor Dominicana calls these cigars “intense, sophisticated and powerful”.

Cigar Event: Pete Johnson (Tatuaje Cigars) @ Holt’s

Just wanted to take the time to let everyone who reads this site of an event at Holt’s in Philadelphia. On Wednesday March 10th, 2010 Pete Johnson who makes Tatuaje Cigars, La Riqueza, El Triunfador and Cabaiguan will be there from 12 noon to 8pm. We would like to thank Miami Cigar Company for sending some samples of these new smokes prior to their release dates so we can share our findings. This is a risky move because despite Miami Cigar Co. being one of our sponsors we will not hide our feelings when it comes to reviews. I personally rather risk losing a sponsor then some readers over an unfair biased review. We promise to remain objective on all cigars no matter how we obtain them. I take great pride in my honesty and straight forward nature and I am not about to change who I am for any reason. A rating cannot and will not ever be bought.

Could it be that Spring is just around the corner? With the blizzards that recently rocked the Northeast the first signs of spring are here. The first being trivial with temperatures reaching 50+ degrees today in New York City. The second is the first of many new 2010 releases are right around the corner. These include but are not limited to, Nestor Miranda Domincanos, Nosotros by illusione, Tatuaje El Triunfador, Avo LE ’10 and the Gran Habano Azteca. It’s a good time of year for cigar smokers, so let’s get outside and smoke em if you got em!

Cigar Review: illusione ~mk~

Last week I got to hang out at De La Concha in New York City with some friends and I picked up a few sticks for review. Some of those sticks were the illusione mk which is also known as the Teaching Machine. For fans of the line, the first thing you notice is the band being gold and white like the ECCJ instead of the usual black and white. This is where Twitter is handy as Dion Giolito is on there and when asked why the difference in color he stated, “It was a slightly different blend than the illusione B&W bands. Needed more tooling/attention due to the smaller ring, hence different band.”

Cigar Review: Gran Habano Azteca

So a few weeks ago on Twitter the person who handles the account for Gran Habano Cigars reached out to me and asked if I would like to be on a tasting panel for the pre-release of the Azteca which is their new Maduro. Having liked the cigars produced by them in the past I jumped on board. I smoked one the day they arrived and this is the 3rd one I am smoking. The good news is that I have been reaching for these cigars not letting them sit and dreading reviewing them.
