This past week we ventured into New York City to meet up with some friends old and new at Davidoff on Madison for the launch of the first new cigar line from Davidoff in 10 years. This intimate event was attended by industry powerhouses, retail shop owners, and cigar bloggers such as myself, smokescore.com and the Tampa Cigar Examiner.
As we enjoyed some fine hors d’oeuvres from Rothsman’s steak house who catered the affair, enjoyed some incredibly fine wine and sampled this medium to full bodied cigar from Davidoff we were able to mingle with world renowned chef Wayne Nish and musician Christian McBride who treated us to a great rendition of “The Good Life” on an upright acoustic bass.
The Davidoff Puro d’Oro features the new Yamasa wrapper which is grown on their newest farm located in a region that has not been seen in the industry until now. The Puro d’Oro comes in 4 sizes and according to Mr. Kelner each blend of the cigar is different with the wrapper being the only constant. The sizes are as follows:
- Magnificos 5 1/8 x 52 ($16.50 MSRP)
- Notables 5 5/8 x 46 ($15.50 MSRP)
- Deliciousos 4 7/8 x 43 ($12.00 MSRP)
- Sublimes 4 1/5 x 38 ($9.50 MSRP)
Each Davidoff Puro d’Oro has only a gold embossed ring at the foot denoting the name of the size. The only mention of Davidoff is on the box these cigars come in as the classic Davidoff band does not adorn these new blends.
