Graycliff Cigars Giveaway!

pkg_cigar_lg01

I’ve been a fan of Graycliff Cigars for some time now, and I have smoked my share of the Red (Original), White (Crystal) and Blue (Professionale) cigars since I started smoking 14 years ago. Every shop I have ever worked in, or had a piece of I made sure to carry these cigars. While expensive, it is my opinion that these are among the top cigars out there.

Well with Torano taking over distribution in the USA Graycliff is in the limelight for the first time to a lot of cigar smokers. I recently spoke with a public relations person from the company and they have agreed to sponsor the first giveaway as we celebrate our 3rd anniversary. What started as a hobby remains so and this allows me to keep things honest. Sure we have taken on advertisers and sponsors but we will continue to speak our mind no matter what the cost might be.

I opted not to go to IPCPR this year and plan to take some vacations with cigar themes. One of the trips on my radar is the Graycliff Cigar Getaway. While we are not giving away this trip it is the ultimate luxury vacation for cigar smokers and their guest. Upon arrival you are greeted with a bottle of rum. Then each morning you start the day with a full breakfast. On the first night you partake in a Tasting dinner at the award-winning Graycliff Restaurant which includes wine, cigars and an after dinner cordial. On another night you dine at Churrascaria Humidor, a traditional Brazilian Rodizio restaurant. And on another day/evening you learn to roll cigars, with a Rum Tasting to follow. And instead of a mint on your pillow, the turn down service each night features a different Graycliff cigar…

You can find out more about the trip on the Graycliff Cigar Package website.
Be sure to follow them on Facebook as well.

Now if you can’t go to the Bahamas you can win a taste of luxury here on acigarsmoker.com.  Just be sure to leave a comment telling us about your favorite Graycliff cigar or moment. For example.. “It was the fourth of July in 2004 and I was out with some friends on a private boat. Docked just off of South Street Seaport I lit up my Graycliff Original (Red), my friend the crystal (White) and the captain, the Professionale (Blue). Our own patriotic salute as we watched the fireworks above us.” On Friday June 3rd we will announce a winner chosen at random from the comments. Only those that share their favorite moment will be eligible to win. No entries will be accepted after 9am eastern time on 6/3.

In the mean time here are some photographs from the Graycliff Cigar Package…

Can’t really say. Cause I’ve haven’t had a favorite Graycliff moment yet.

Awesome contest. Interesting story involving a Graycliff Red label. I was down to 2 in a box of torpedo’s I had purchased and I smoked one on the patio with my then future fiancée. When I got down to the last part of the cigar I slid the band off. My then girlfriend (now fiancée) sometimes likes to slip my used cigar bands on her finger, especially since we had been talking about getting engaged for some time. Well the band for the Graycliff Red Label Torpedo fit on her ring finger perfectly. I realized that if I asked her for her ring size that she would know I was shopping for ring, so I used the last Graycliff red label torpedo I had to get her engagement ring properly sized. I thought I was pretty smart. Now we’ve been engaged for a little over 3 months! Getting married in 2012 FTW!

I am still looking for a stellar Graycliff. I have not really been a fan for the cost of the cigars

Great cigar! I love Graycliff’s!! I can’t afford them too often, but when I can I do, especially for special occasions.

Which is my favorite Graycliff memory. I attended the wedding of one of my cousins, and I brought 2 Graycliffs with me – Crystals I believe. My wife had gifted these to me for Christmas, so I was excited to smoke them after 6 months in the humi AND I’d never had these before.

Well, at the outdoor reception, the bride wanted some time with her bridesmaids near the end of the party, so I called my cousin the groom over and we lit those Graycliff cigars up. And we both so thoroughly enjoyed them that that moment has come up several times over the past couple of years we see each other each summer.

Hmmm, I think I have another one of these in my humidor, somewhere in the back. I think I might be lighting one of these up this Monday, in memory of THIS memory, and in memory of our fallen military! SEMPER FI!!!!

My first Graycliff experience is also on of my my first real cigar experiences. I decided I wanted a humidor that was at my local pawn shop. The humidor was packed with 120 sticks. Unfortunately, the sticks were really bad off by the time I found out about them. Not knowing any better, but determined, I began humidifying them. Some of the cigars came out of it ok, other not so much, the ones that didn’t I attempted to super humidify, about half of those survived, the rest exploded.

Anyway, 12 of those cigars were Graycliffs, and even after all they had been through, the great taste came through. It was that batch of half ruined cigars that made me a lifetime cigar smoker.

My first Graycliff experience took place while I was deployed to ISAF Headquarters, Kabul, AFG, in 2008. During one of the rare quiet times, I was able to enjoy a Chateau Gran Cru Pirate with some other BOTLs.

Now having retired after 23 years in the USAF, that moment is one of the best memories that I have not only from that deployment, but also from my military career.

My first Graycliff was a 1666 on top of South Mountain here in Phoenix, as the sun went down and the lights of the city came on. I did go a little over the side of the edge so I would not bother anyone and have them ting my little event. As I was about half way done I hear someone yell over the edge, “I love the smell of your cigar!” and I of course said thanks. That was just the icing on the cake for me.

I am totally digging these stories, can’t wait to read more…

My favorite Graycliff is the Double Espresso while I was stationed in the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. I had received the Graycliff Double Espresso as part of a trade with a friend. It was finally Friday and I was off duty for the weekend.

I went to the smoke pit with some of my friends that were smoking some CAO Brazilia. We got to herf and hang out for an hour or two while watching the sun set over the Pacific. I kinda miss being in the Army sometimes.

Mine’s not a very stellar “Graycliff moment”, but here goes…
I’d been up for 3 days straight, all hopped up on Mountain Dew AMP and Reese’s Pieces and was blazing through website after website, searching for something to blow hard-earned money on. Somewhere along the way I came across the CI Legends humidor combo. Smokes AND a box. Sweet. I pointed my mouse and clicked away. Victory!

Sometime later when I was crashing from my AMP bender, my box o’ smokes arrived and got quickly placed in my closet and promptly forgotten. The box was too bright and the colors hurt my eyes. Damn you, Mountain Dew.

Did I mention I forgot about them? Yeah, I did. I came across the box a few weeks ago and decided to give them a try. Of the better ones in the box, 2 were Purple Label / Graycliffs. I smoked the 1st and, according to my notes (yeah, I have to make notes or else I forget important things. Things like ordering a humidor full of cigars in the middle of the night…) I was impressed. I followed that a week later with the 2nd one and was even more impressed.

So there’s my “Graycliff moment”. But if my wife asks you, they were an anonymous gift that I had nothing to do with. They just showed up one day. Right? RIGHT?!

Without a doubt it is the Chateau Grand Cru. I was traveling on business and one evening decided to visit a local smoke shop. I asked for something special and the staff pointed out a Chateau Grand Cru Salomon. I was not familiar with Graycliff’s at that point but I was completely taken with the purple banded beauty as I smoked by the lake at my hotel. For me the Chateau Grand Crus are the only cigars to rival Padron 1964 Family Reserves and the two are so completely different. Avelino Lara does not get nearly enough recognition for the genius he was.

Wish I could have a Graycliff cigar moment. Haven’t been able to spend the money on one.

I am sure that my favorite Graycliff moment will be the next time I light one up. Each time is a new experience with pleasures not noticed when last I smoked.

  • JB

I’d hate to rain on everyone’s vacation, but after 4 tries with theses cigars I’m yet to have a good experience. Nothing but burn and draw problems on all of them. Yet, after reading all of these comments, maybe I’ll give them another try. but 4 for 4, thats asking a lot.

My favorite Graycliff moment was undoubtedly at my brother’s wedding. We love Graycliff cigars and they are regularly a part of our celebrations. After the ceremony and the party we spent about an hour puffing away on some Graycliff red labels and reminiscing about our childhood. What a great cigar for such a special occasion.

  • Lloyd L.

Had the good fortune of lighting up a Graycliff 1666 during my camping trip this weekend. I wish I could tell you how I enjoyed it but a little too much alcohol did me in!

  • AJ

I like the graycliff with the purple label. My friend Ruben hooked me up with one once and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

  • Doogie

My favorite Graycliff moment was smoking a 1666 robusto while watching the sunset on a sailboat in the Caribbean. Completely 100% relaxing.

  • JoshK

I’ve had some issues with Graycliff smaller sizes (all I could afford) tunneling. But once, about 2 years ago I got a Graycliff Blue torpedo in a sampler and it was excelent. I smoked it in a park and it was windy but the ash still held for 3 inches.

Graycliff has a special place in my heart. I was on my honeymoon in Exuma, Bahamas. On New Year’s Eve the resort flew in a cigar roller from Graycliff to hand roll cigars for all the guests. I was the first in line to get one and wanted to take 10 but also didn’t want to be greedy. By the time I went back to get another the line was around the corner and the poor guy was doing everything he could to keep up. I ended up with just one cigar and boy did I regret it after smoking that Graycliff the next day on the beach. It was the last day of our honeymoon and I will always remember that last cigar in paradise! It was excellent.

My favorite Graycliff moment was when on my 10th anniversary at work I went to my favorite shop and picked up a Chateau Gran Cru Salomon. My wife and I then went to a local Cuban restaurant for dinner. Then after dinner I lit up the cigar as we walked around the Orange Circle.

  • MoBarbq (Wes)

My favorite Graycliff moment was about a year ago, when I ordered an 8-cigar sampler from one of the online places; and a G2 Torpedo was one of the featured sticks. I didn’t know a lot about cigars other than recalling that the ones I tried when I was in my twenties always seemed bitter. That Graycliff was very smooth, even though one of their cheaper varieties, and I enjoyed it. I couldn’t have told you then if it was chocolate or alfalfa I was tasting, I just know it was a quality stick and it was a pleasant memory in my cigar journey.
