La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro – Cigar Review

In December of 2010 La Aurora released the Broadway Series line, exclusive to New York. The goal was to help  retailers deal with the harsh tax of 75% of wholesale cost in New York state. Guillermo León says, “New York has always been special to me and my family. What has happened with the cigar taxes in New York is tragic. Since we cannot lower the taxes, we worked hard to lower the cost of this cigar without compromising quality.” In the summer of 2011 La Aurora released the Broadway Series in a maduro wrapper. This is a review of the Broadway Series Maduro, you can check out our review of the original La Aurora Broadway Series here. Construction and Appearance: The La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro has a milk chocolate colored wrapper. The wrapper is lightly veined, and has a triple cap. The cigar is well packed with no visible defects, or soft spots.

Flavor and notes: The wrapper has notes of sweet cocoa and hay. The foot of the cigar has cocoa, hay, and coffee notes. The cold draw on the La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro has a rich sweet milk chocolate flavor.

Smoking Characteristics: The first third has notes of rich sweet milk chocolate, coffee, and a light oak spice. The flavors are well blended and very tasty. Each draw produces a full body of, cool, rich, sweet smoker. The draw and burn are both excellent. On the palate between draw a sweet cocoa flavor remains on the palate along with a light oak flavor.

The second third of the La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro has the same notes of sweet milk chocolate, but the coffee flavors have become more of a latte, and a earthy note has been introduced. The same sweet cocoa and light oaky flavors remains on the palate between draws. The strength can be placed around medium, the retrohale burning slightly. A slight nicotine buzz has also set in at this point.

The final third the flavor of the La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro is really starting to impress me. A rich sweet graham cracker flavor has been introduced. There are still notes of sweet milk chocolate, and light oak. The smoke is still cool, sweet, rich, and very delicious. The draw and burn both remaining perfect. I smoke the La Aurora down to the nub when I start to get get a finger burn, the flavor remaining the same.

Conclusion: The flavors on the La Aurora Broadway Series Maduro were excellent. The construction also perfect, no adjustment needed to the draw or burn. It is an excellent maduro cigar, with medium strength, a full body, and full flavor. If you are a New york state resident, or visiting New York, definitely look for this one, I wouldn’t say it is a must try for any cigar smoker, but it is certainly a must try for a maduro smoker.
