One of the new introductions from Ashton at the 2012 IPCPR was the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva. It is a new cigar made in the My Father Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and blended by the Garcias for Ashton. The new Mi Amor Reserva features a Mexican Cuban Seed wrapper, which is absolutely beautiful. It comes in four sizes Beso (5 5.8 x 48), Maximo (5 1/2 x 54), Divino (6 1/4 x 52), and Romantico (6 7/8 x 50).
In Orlando, the Ashton booth was buzzing with people. Among their new cigar introductions this year were the Premium House selection, the La Aroma De Cuba El Jefe (a new size we reviewed here), and the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva which I am reviewing today.
Check out my photos of the Ashton booth below:
Size: 6 1/4 x 52
Wrapper: Mexican Cuban Seed
Strength: Medium – Full
Cigars Smoked For Review: 1
Construction and Appearance: The La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva has a very dark brown wrapper with a slight reddish hue, very little veins, and a noticeably oily sheen. It is a slightly rounded, box-pressed cigar which feels great in hand. It has the classic La Aroma de Cuba band, plus a second band below it which designates it as a Mi Amor Reserva.
Flavor and Notes: The wrapper of the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva has notes of very sweet cocoa and dried fruit. The foot has a scent which is a mix of cocoa, coffee, earth, and hay. I use a straight cut to prepare smoking the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva, and on the cold draw there are flavors of spice, earth, cocoa, and coffee.
Smoking Characteristics: The La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva fires up with an abundance of cool, rich, smooth smoke. The draw starts out excellent, easily providing a full body of smoke. In the first third, there are notes of dried fruit, cocoa, light spice, with a bit of earth notes left on the palate. There is a nice rich spice on the retrohale and the strength comes in around medium to full.
Moving into the second third of the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva, there is still plenty of dried fruit, cocoa, and a nice mix of spice with a slightly earthy undertone. This third of the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva is a bit sweeter, and the strength remains in the medium to full range. The ash holds firmly, easily past the inch point. The burn is sharp, with no corrections being required. Each draw continues to easily provide a full body of cool, rich, sweet, creamy, smooth smoke.
During the final third of the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva, the spice and dried fruit flavors intensify. The earthy undertones are gone and the cocoa subsides. The strength is still in the medium to full range with a nice little buzz setting in. The construction performs wonderfully to the nub, remaining noticeably cool to my fingertips.
Conclusion: The La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva is a great stick. It has some wonderful flavors an an excellent strength. The construction was great with no burn issues or flaky ash, and no issue with the draw. If you already enjoy the La Aroma de Cuba, you will love the Mi Amor Reserva. I’d pick up more of these the second they hit B&M shelves.
