Fortaleza-11-150x150

Charlie at www.halfwheel.com posted in his last news update in December about a new release from George Rodriguez at Rodrigo cigar that he would be releasing a new line called La Fortaleza for Spring 2012. Well, I did some digging and then called George to talk about some of the things we had heard. Now, [...]

printscreen copy

The Q d’etat line represents a symbolic revolt against the unfair taxation practices and mistreatment of the premium cigar industry. The brand is intended to create awareness of the dangers increased government regulation and taxation will produce, specifically the FDA’s desire to regulate premium cigars. There will be three sizes, released at different dates, of 1,000 ten-count boxes. Each box will contain a form to register for membership in Cigar Rights of America. The first of the three sizes is a figurado called the “Molotov” and will be released in January.

Q & A With Jon Huber of Crowned Heads

FourKicks_Wallpaper2

The company with some of the biggest buzz lately in Social Media has yet to release a cigar. Crowned Heads which was formed by former employees of CAO has Jon Huber in the limelight once again. Huber who was the Director of Marketing before the company was bought by Scandinavian Tobacco Group has used social media to perfection to create a buzz for a cigar that no one has any idea of what it will bring to the table. Four Kicks is slated to be released soon in limited numbers and the stores that have been announced as retailers are already fielding calls on the smoke.

I recently reached out to Jon Huber asking if he would take the time to answer some questions, and he was kind enough to do so…

We already have a winner, but Read More to read the back story.

Luxury Smokes, Across From the White House

IMG_9553

Looks like Washington DCi s becoming a huge destination for cigar smokers. Little Puff (one of the most well-attended cigar events of the year) is held there. Also, the DC metro area is home to some very exclusive cigar bars, like CXIII Rex, in Alexandria,Va.

Now that the DC Drapers shop moved to a location where their patrons can smoke, it seems that cigar smokers will have more options now than ever before.

Editorial: Cigar Shop Ettiquette

tvroom

I was sitting at Cigar Inn last night watching the end of the Yankees season when I was shocked to see 4 people come in and take up seating in the back to watch the game. Why was I shocked? 3 of the 4 people sat down to smoke cigarettes and the other was not smoking at all. Not one of them made a purchase. Now granted it was not my place to say anything and the place was more crowded then usual so they may of gone unnoticed by but it made me stop and think about cigar shop etiquette.

First and foremost if you are visiting a cigar shop and plan to sit in the lounge you should buy at least one cigar. I’ve heard people say…

Commentary: Charity & Cigar Smokers

I am not reviewing a cigar today due to the fact that I have been fighting bronchitis and a really bad allergy induced asthma attack. Add to the fact that I am now on the road down to Washington DC for Little Puff I couldn’t do it last-minute as has become the custom lately. It [...]

Cigar Commentary: Resting Versus Aging cigars

Hand_roll_Cigars

Sometimes, when I go out, I’m at an event where there is a cigar roller who is rolling fresh cigars. I’m always fascinated by it because I get to experience first-hand, what it takes to create a hand-rolled cigar.

I just hesitate a bit before I light up a freshly rolled cigar. Here are my thoughts about smoking a freshly rolled cigar. On the one hand, cigar rollers can simply be mesmerizing. It’s pretty cool to be able to see the bunch, and to inspect the wrapper. It’s almost like participating in the culture of the factory rollers’ culture. Smoking a stick right off the bench is a great way to experience what the rollers can often experience when they’re working.
