Happy Thanksgiving!

gobble

Can you believe how fast the year went? Christmas is right around the corner and before you know it so is 2012. If you believe in the Mayan calendar the end of world is near too.

As we spend time with a good cigar, football and family I wanted to take the time to thank people who mean a lot to me over the last year. I am bound to forget someone so I apologize in advance.

Cigar Commentary: Resting Versus Aging cigars

Hand_roll_Cigars

Sometimes, when I go out, I’m at an event where there is a cigar roller who is rolling fresh cigars. I’m always fascinated by it because I get to experience first-hand, what it takes to create a hand-rolled cigar.

I just hesitate a bit before I light up a freshly rolled cigar. Here are my thoughts about smoking a freshly rolled cigar. On the one hand, cigar rollers can simply be mesmerizing. It’s pretty cool to be able to see the bunch, and to inspect the wrapper. It’s almost like participating in the culture of the factory rollers’ culture. Smoking a stick right off the bench is a great way to experience what the rollers can often experience when they’re working.

Children Suffer Because Of Overreaching Tobacco Policy

Via dailymail.co.uk

Some government agencies just don’t have their priorities straight and it makes life tough for everyone. Clare and Paul Baker in theU.K., applied to be foster parents but were rejected after the Paul said he smoked two cigars in the previous 18 months.

Apparently, the Essex County Council had an archaic and overreaching policy that required short-term foster parents of children under five must be tobacco-free for 12 months. Paul, believing that he should be honest to the agency, mentioned that he had a cigar at his brother’s wedding and another at an office party. He also said that he never smoked at home.

Even for long-time Cuban cigar smokers, smoking cigars from outside Cuba can have pretty big impacts. For Hillman Lentz, an entrepreneur who (for a while) only smoked Cuban cigars, smoking a Perdomo cigar (made inNicaragua) has changed his life.

Hillman says,

“It was much better constructed, better tobacco, longer draw; it was an entirely different experience.”

Cigar News: Habanos S.A has a new Partagas Vitola

Caja25 uds

I’ve had only a handful of cuban cigars in the past. Some were better than others. I’ve noticed that although cuban cigars have been plagued with consistency issues, the newer releases seem to be less prone to those problems. I know it’s tough to get a hold of these smokes, but if you do, I’d love to hear what you think of these new smokes from Habanos S.A. Here’s the press release:
