I’ll be the first person to admit I thought the bookmakers had it all wrong when they had the Packers as favorites on Super Bowl Sunday. But I guess they are in the game for a reason and that is to make money on people who think like me. I really thought the score would [...]

As I sit here ready to write my Sunday Links entry i just lit up an Anejo #48 and as I just spoke with fellow cigar enthusiast @baboruger on twitter we both agree that this years Anejo release is pretty special. Although I have had some draw issues, the cigar has been better then recent years.

Yesterday I was on the radio, my first ever cigar interview on the air. I’ve been on the radio on the past as a college DJ back in the day, my friends radio station had me in studio hanging out once and we got into a discussion on new wave music which was awkward as I am a metal head. But my time spent yesterday on The Cigar Authority was a lot of fun and I hope to do it again. In two weeks I will also be a guest on a show hosted by @mallikarjunan

It’s been a quite week in the cigar world and other then Draper’s down in Washington DC expanding to Bethesda not much has happened. The cold weather really has a grip on the Northeast and as I write today’s entry wind chill temperatures are in the negative numbers and another massive snow storm is heading our way. Add to the fact that I was sick and my week was extremely boring so there isn’t much to write about so let’s just jump into the Sunday Links shall we?

Sunday Links – Cigar Network Edition

Cigar Network - Winter 2010 Cover

Yesterday I went on a little bit of a tirade about a certain Top 25 list and I stated how that magazine has lost touch with the smoker of today. One can make an argument that a lot of people who smoke today use that publication to figure out what they want to smoke. Advertising, reviews, and so on. The argument says that people are fed what they should smoke and like and therefore smoke those cigars.

However, a branch of cigar smokers have broken free and have become the new wave of cigar smokers.

1 Sunday down, 51 more to go. New York City’s outer boroughs still look like Armageddon. It is really sad how the sanitation union held New Yorkers in the outer boroughs hostage because of their job action. You see it all started with the mayor having to cut overtime and demote 400 supervisors due to a budget deficit. One could say this saved some jobs, but the union didn’t see it that way. So workers were told that there was no urgency in getting the job done. The result is the outer boroughs, especially south Brooklyn still suffering from snow issues.

Over the course of the first 3 days after the storm I saw many plow operators driving around with their plows up.

Ah the last Sunday of the year, a year that has flown by. It seems as I get older the years go by quicker. While I know they all move at the same pace it seems funny how much time is beginning to fly by. Even yesterday as I was driving around town on Christmas Day looking to see what was open I stumbled upon a barber shop. I needed a haircut and since no one was present I decided to get my hair cut. The result was more proof that I am indeed getting older. As the hairs fell off my head I was shocked at the amount of gray that was present but thankfully there is no bald spot yet and the hairline isn’t receding.

It’s funny I set off to write about the blizzard happening in NYC right now but I got side-tracked. As a kid I couldn’t wait for it to snow now all I can think of is the potential heart attack of shoveling out my driveway after 15″ of snow falls.

For now the Sunday Links…

Well after spending the better part of Sunday morning and early afternoon trying to install a plugin called User Photo I have put it to rest. The end of the year is approaching us and many changes are in store for the cigar industry. Earlier this week we broke the news about a merger happening between Miami Cigar & Company with La Aurora Cigars. As a partnership one has to assume some of the La Aurora catalog will have a reduction in price.

Now that I have weekends to myself again I decided it was time to dust off the Sunday Links. I appreciate everyone who has included my site in the weekly links and now I hope to return the favor. Over the last 5 months I have worked 7 days a week and was totally burned out from the lack of time off and days off.

To all of you who got snow this weekend I am jealous. We had temperatures in the 20s all week but yesterday it decided to reach the 40s and today the 50s. So all that moisture is now coming down in the form of rain. There is enough of a wind out that had it stayed cold we would of had a blizzard.

After a lengthy hiatus the Sunday links have returned. First a little self promotion it’s been a pretty active week and I got my 15 minutes of fame. In the latest issue of Cigar Snob I am mentioned in the story about the 107 Lancero. I was then mentioned by David Savona of Cigar Aficionado in his latest online story on big ring cigars.

Without further adieu, The Sunday Links….

I know yesterday that I mentioned that NYC is looking to ban outdoor smoking but what I forgot to mention is the fact that there is a public hearing on the matter that needs you to attend. Just about all retailers from NYC are appearing and I am trying to make an adjustment in my schedule to attend.

Join the New York Tobacconist Association at New York State Senate Health Committee Public Hearing this Thursday, September 23, from 10:00am – 12:00pm. The hearing will take place at: The New York State Senate Health Committee Chamber, 250 Broadway, 19th Floor, New York City.

Yes, I know it is hump day but for some odd reason this never posted on Sunday and since I am currently traveling today I figured I would just post it today.

The NFL Season is upon us and I thought I would take the time to post my NFL Predictions before moving on to the Sunday Links. So without further adieu

So it seems some people well one person on twitter has told me that I should rename my blog along the lines of Miami Cigars Blog or something. I don’t get this because while I have grown close to the people at Miami Cigar Company and La Aurora Cigars I still strive to bring a variety of reviews from across the board. It just so happens that MCC had the most new releases under there brand and distribution at this years trade show. I still have to review the Art Deco, La Aurora Corojo, La Aurora 107 Lancero, and La Sirena. Not to mention the video review (which is more of a political statement) of the Tatiana Cigars because I lost a bet to Tatiana.

I am not sure how the masses feel but …

It seems to me that New York is trying to become the anti-smoking leader in the USA. I received yesterday and email from the New York Tobacconist Association about a meeting the New York State Senate Health Committee holding a public hearing on September 23 at 10 AM taking place 250 Broadway, 19th Fl., New York City. The Committee will meet to learn how the state’s regulation of smoking and tobacco products works to improve the health of all New Yorkers and any actions needed for continued benefits.

On the table are the following items:

Yesterday I wanted to write about the brotherhood but with various site issues I had to put the post on hold. But the amount of people looking to help me out with the issues of the site just proves our close the brotherhood and sisterhood of the leaf is. This was evident in New Orleans with the Twitter Bother of the Leaf Cocktail Hour put together by Chief Hava & Stogie Review. With manufactures donating cigars (for a complete list go here) to be given out at the event it is obvious some members of the press are accepted at IPCPR.

With 120 people including people from twitter, cigar manufacturers and the good people of Dos Jeffe the cigar bar that held the event we laughed, we drank, we smoked and we listened to good music. It is sad that our politcians have lost sight of the this basic freedom that so many fine americans have enjoyed and continue to enjoy in some municipalities.
