San Cristobal Elegancia – Cigar Review

San Cristobal Elegacia Band

I was talking to a friend who owns a retail establishment and he believes the days of the ultra strong cigar are behind us. Now, while I can appreciate a full strength cigar this would be music to my ears. Lately, the cigar companies have released one nicotine bomb after the other and the body of the cigar has suffered tremendously. I know many will disagree with me, but it feels like the art of cigar making is becoming a lost art.

Made in Nicaragua by My Father Cigars for Ashton Distributors, the San Cristobal has begun to ship to stores after it’s debut at IPCPR in Las Vegas last month. The cigar comes in 5 sizes and will retail for under $7.00 before local taxes. The cigar is being released as a Churchill (7 x 50 / $6.85); Corona (5.5 x 46 / $5.95; Imperial (6 x 52 / $6.75); Pyramid (6.25 x 52 / $6.90) and Robust (5 x 50 / $6.40).

Breakfast at Drapers for this year’s Little Puff

Little-Puff-2011-Save-The-Date

It looks like there’s some buzz about this year’s “Little Puff” in Washington DC. The little puff is only little name and it’s actually kind of a big deal:

The “Little Puff” is Draper’s signature fundraiser, an intimate gathering of cigar lovers (limited to 300 people). Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction benefit three local academic scholarships (The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in action; The Pat Krimm Scholarship & The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship).

Event Recap: Primo Cigar Shop, Santa Fe, NM

This past week I took a flight out of New York to escape for a while with some friends in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A place I’ve been to once before that had me eager to return. With the mountains in every direction and low humidity I was able to kick back and relax while taking part in the re-branding/re-opening of Primo Cigar Shop. The shop which is open daily from 11-7 features a walk in humidor full of the top brands and a large selection of pipes and pipe tobacco is truly heaven on earth when the surroundings are taken into consideration.

Last night I attended an event at Tobacco Plaza for the launch of the My Father Limited Edition where I purchased a box of these cigars that were limited to 2000 boxes of 12. What makes these cigars so special is the fact that were rolled by Jose ‘Pepin’ Garcia and his son Jamie Garcia. The wrapper was put on by Jose, and the binder/filler was done Jaime making these very special and collectibles. The purchase set me back $300.00 and to be honest with you I had planned to buy them in Pennsylvania but my work schedule didn’t work out. There these cigars would of cost me a lot less, $75.00 less. However, I don’t feel bad because the guys at Tobacco Plaza are top notch.Watch for a cigar review coming soon.

That wasn’t the only event I went to this week…

Cigar Review: La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor

la_aroma_de_cuba_mi_amor_tn

I managed to get my hands one of these a few days before IPCPR and when I smoked it I was ready to right a review on it. However, I promised I would wait until after the show as Ashton did a good job keeping these under wraps. Since IPCPR I have smoked quite a few of them and my opinion has never changed.

The Mi Amor has been in the making for a couple of years and Holts in Philadelphia will have an event at the Walnut Street location on August 25th from 12pm at 8pm. If you drop by make sure you say hello to Anthony, Robyn, Bob, Lee & Michael for me. This crew makes up one of the best staffs in the cigar business

Cigar Review: Ashton VSG CRA Edition

The Cigar Right of America offerd a 10 pack of cigars to it’s members for a rediculous price and I jumped on it. According to the CRA website, “Ashton Distributors will offer CRA members a memorable experience using 4-5 year old Dominican tobacco and an Ecuadorian wrapper. Ashton Distributors Vice President Sathya Levin stated, “Ashton [...]

Cigar Review: La Aroma De Cuba Edicion Especial

One reason why I personally almost never order from online is because I like walking into a brick & mortar and being recognized by the owner or workers. Yesterday was a perfect example of this when I walked into the Cigar Vault in Brooklyn, NY. The owner, Joe saw me walk in and before you [...]

Review: Asthon ESG (Estate Sun Grown)

Having stayed up late last night to watch the All-Star game it was with amazing that I woke up at 5am today. With just a little bit of sleep after one of the better games in memory of the mid-summer classic in the final year of the greatest baseball venue I decided to go out [...]
