Room 101 LTD Namakubi – Cigar Review

Room 101 Namakubi - Band

Room 101 cigars originally debuted to mix reviews. However, Matt Booth worked hard and developed a cult following. The cigars grew in popularity and seemingly they got better. Last month acigarsmoker.com was with the Room 101 Connecticut and we eagerly awaited the release of the Namakubi.

According to Room 101 Cigars the story of the Namakubi is based on Samurai culture and is believed to live on in spirit within certain groups. In ancient times when two Samurai clans would gather for competition there was a great deal at stake. Normally, the losing party would die as a result of wounds sustained in battle or be executed upon defeat. The Namakubi, or freshly severed head of the losing party would be prepared on a wooden tray then tagged in a regimented manner and presented to the leader of the winning clan as a gift.

Breakfast at Drapers for this year’s Little Puff

Little-Puff-2011-Save-The-Date

It looks like there’s some buzz about this year’s “Little Puff” in Washington DC. The little puff is only little name and it’s actually kind of a big deal:

The “Little Puff” is Draper’s signature fundraiser, an intimate gathering of cigar lovers (limited to 300 people). Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction benefit three local academic scholarships (The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in action; The Pat Krimm Scholarship & The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship).

Room 101 Connecticut – Cigar Review

Room 101 Connecticut Band

The prior two Room 101 cigars have been met with mixed reviews online. The original release and the Conjura were good, but they weren’t revolutionary and I found myself getting bored with them. For me their shelf life was short and for this I felt bad because having met Matt Booth I found him to be a nice guy. So on my recent excursion to Tobacco Plaza in Great Neck, NY to check out what is new post IPCPR 2011 I hesitantly reached for the Room 101 Connecticut

Press Release: Room 101 Announces Namakubi Cigars

Room101 Namakubi Ad Cigar Press 2011.indd

It looks like Camacho’s Room 101 has something very interesting coming up.

As an extension of their LTD series, Room101 announced their Namakubi Edition cigars. With a gnarly looking – Japanese Kabuki-like design, I wouldn’t be surprised to find that this will be a fuller-bodied offering from Room 101.

Pedro Martin Ruby – Cigar Review

Martin_Family_Band

Pedro Martin is a legendary master blender, whose career began in Cuba and stretched to over 70 years in the industry. The cigars are rolled in Esteli in a factory that employs only 23 rollers owned by Eduardo Fernandez, but is not associated with Tropical Tobacco. Maria Martin is the founder of this new brand and is the daughter of Pedro Martin. She worked as the President of Tropical when it was still owned by her father. When he fell ill in 2001 he sold the company to Eduardo Fernandez. Maria then became the National Sales Manager for Camacho Cigars and helped build the brand until its sale in 2008 to Davidoff. In the spring of 2010 Pedro Martin passed away and this fueled Maria to bring back her father’s legacy. So along with Ammer Cabrera who is the VP and Co-Founder they have begun to introduce the cigars to the world.

Today is the first of 3 cigars from Pedro Martin that we will feature on the site. According to the company, The Pedro Martin Ruby is a medium-plus strength cigar with a Sun Grown Corojo wrapper. The Pedro Martin Ruby line is available in 6 x 60; Churchill (7” x 48); Robusto> (5” x 50); Toro (6” x 52) and a Torpedo (6 ¼” x 52).

Cigar Education Sells Cigars

Selling cigars is not about selling cigars. More often than not, it’s about the feeling a smoker gets once he (or she) purchases that cigar (says Christian Eiroa). Sometimes, the cigar smoker expects a little more at a brick and mortar store. That little something extra can be the shop keepers’ personalities, cigar blending sessions, or even deeper knowledge about …

Saturday Morning Cut and Light – The Internet Told Me So

leonardo dicaprio, smoking a cigar

My morning sessions start with a pot of coffee and a trip to my humidor to select a cigar. (In the evening, substitute bourbon and beer for the coffee.) The cigar is all about the ritual – selecting the right cigar to go with my mood, the time of day; taking it out of the cellophane, inhaling the fragrance of the wrapper, admiring the label, the workmanship (the better cigars are still handmade by someone with skilled hands in another culture thousands of miles away), snipping its head, lighting it, those first few draws, and watching the smoke infiltrate my den. The ritual helps get my creativity flowing.

Event Recap: Launch Party, Esquire Home @ Nat Sherman’s

CIMG0011

So was it a furniture store or a cigar shop? To tell you the truth, it was a little bit of both. For the most part, the cigar displays and counters stayed the same but the lounge area and a top floor office transformed into a very classy cigar-encouraged man space. It was like converting the leather furniture section of a Crate and Barrel into a smoking lounge.

F’in awesome!

Event: A Benefit to Give Back

Marines Corp Seal Plaque 1

We have all heard stories about soldiers who have had their lives changed because of the sacrifice they have made fot our country. We have also heard stories about families and how it has changed their lives. Sometimes it happens so close to home that a whole community feels the effects. Such is the case in Monroe Township, NJ.

On November 30th my good friend Jim Ryan will be hosting an event at his bar/restaurant for Marine Lance Corporal Colin Pascik who lost his legs during a tour of Afghanistan in the short 2.5 weeks he was there. I would like to take the time to publicly thank Jason Wood over at Miami Cigar & Company, Dave Lafferty from Drew Estate, Dylan Austin from Camacho and Jon Huber at CAO who have graciously donated cigars for the fundraiser. I also know the New York Yankees have donated tickets.

Ryan’s Pub & Sports Bar is located at 299 Spotswood Englishtown Road Monroe Township, NJ 08831-8626 and I plan to be there for a while for this worthy cause hope to see you as well and there is an area out back to enjoy a stogie under some heaters.

Cigar Review: Camacho Liberty 2010

camacho-liberty-2010-band

It’s that time of the year that Camacho releases the yearly Liberty edition and having seen these in one of my local shops, Fume located in Montclair, New Jersey I had to pick up a few of them for review. I’ll be honest in saying the Liberty series has been hit or miss for me but I will always run out and pick them up to smoke. In the past I reviewed the 2007 , 2008, 2009 and to be honest with you I wish I had the others laying around to say I have reviewed the whole series to date.

camacho-logo

Last night on Fox Business News Christian Eiroa touched on the partnership with Bayer CropScience. If you missed it you can view the video when you read more. With the official press release a few days away I was able to find more about the deal thanks to my relationship with Camacho cigars.

It turns out that Camacho Cigars has signed a deal with the Bayer Food Chain Management program which operated under Bayer CropScience. In doing so Camacho is the only tobacco company in history to comply with strict international standards for Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Agricultural Practices.

Cigar Review: Sencillo

sencillo

Originally I had another post scheduled today but I left my camera in my office and having had a 5 day weekend planned I didn’t really want to drive back for it. So with that I decided to get back to my roots and write a review. After all we are a cigar review blog. It’s been great reporting the news and I think for the most part it has been well received but for now it is time to smoke a cigar and share my thoughts with you, not that it matters any. We all have different taste buds and we all have different opinions. Never take my word for a cigar, go out there and try it for yourself. We may agree, or we may disagree but either way you are expressing your right to smoke and are supporting you local shops, mail order houses and manufacturers.
