Torano Loyal – Cigar Review

Torano Loyal - Band

According to Charlie Torano, “Our new brand Loyal is dedicated to my father’s long standing commitment to provide exceptional quality cigars without breaking the bank. To him cigars were never a far reaching luxury, but one of life’s simple pleasures”. These pleasures could go away if we do not get involved in stopping the FDA.

The cigars will come in 21 count boxes in a 5 x 56 Robusto, 6 1/8 x 52 Torpedo, 7 x 47 Churchill and a 6 x 60 referred to as the BFC. MSRP on all sizes is between $4.95 and $5.50. The sticks feature an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Little-Puff-2011-Save-The-Date

It looks like there’s some buzz about this year’s “Little Puff” in Washington DC. The little puff is only little name and it’s actually kind of a big deal:

The “Little Puff” is Draper’s signature fundraiser, an intimate gathering of cigar lovers (limited to 300 people). Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction benefit three local academic scholarships (The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in action; The Pat Krimm Scholarship & The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship).

Graycliff Cigars Giveaway!

I’ve been a fan of Graycliff Cigars for some time now, and I have smoked my share of the Red (Original), White (Crystal) and Blue (Professionale) cigars since I started smoking 14 years ago. Every shop I have ever worked in, or had a piece of I made sure to carry these cigars. While expensive, it is my personal opinion that these are among the top cigars out there.

Well with Torano taking over distribution in the USA Graycliff is in the limelight for the first time to a lot of cigar smokers. I recently spoke with a public relations person from the company and they have agreed to sponsor the first giveaway as we celebrate our 3rd anniversary.

Graycliff Cigar Company Appoints Torano as US Distributor

Miami, Florida (May 22, 2011) – The Graycliff Cigar Company and the Toraño Family Cigar Company are proud to announce that Graycliff has officially appointed the Toraño Family Cigar Company as its exclusive distributor in the U.S.A. as of June 1, 2011.

“After many years of doing our own distribution, we decided that it was best if we partnered with Toraño to handle that part of our business, so we could focus on the production side,” said Paolo Garzaroli, President of the Graycliff Cigar Company. “We chose Toraño for the similarity in our family values and because our respective cigar brands will complement each other very well.”

Cigar Smoking Philanthropy

Now here’s another fine example of how Cigar smokers are some of the most philanthropic people around. The Toraño Family Cigar Co. and co-sponsor Prime Cigar & Wine Bar were star attractions at the Boca Raton Concours D’elegance for a massive three day fundraising event for the Boy & Girls Club of Broward County.

Well, Jay Leno was the MC at the Boca Concourse D’elegance as it was kicked off with an Indy 500 party at the Boca International Airport. The Gala dinner, auction, and show was hosted Jay Leno.

Cigar Review: Master by Carlos Torano 6 x 60

master60band

Until about a year ago I was dead set against the 60 ring cigar but then I smoked one that changed my mind. On the market there are now about 3 cigars that I prefer the 60 ring over a more traditional size.

The Master is a joint effort between Carlos Torano and master roller Felipe Sosa and comes in five sizes: Robusto (5 x 50), Torpedo (6.25 x 52), Churchill (7 x 50), Toro (6 x 54) and now 6 x 60. The cigar is described by Toraño as “having a bold, rich flavor … it’s for the man with a seasoned palate, a cigar that fully satisfies after an opulent meal or an evening pairing with spirits. True aficionados will discern and appreciate the balanced flavor and body.”

After a lengthy hiatus the Sunday links have returned. First a little self promotion it’s been a pretty active week and I got my 15 minutes of fame. In the latest issue of Cigar Snob I am mentioned in the story about the 107 Lancero. I was then mentioned by David Savona of Cigar Aficionado in his latest online story on big ring cigars.

Without further adieu, The Sunday Links….

So it seems some people well one person on twitter has told me that I should rename my blog along the lines of Miami Cigars Blog or something. I don’t get this because while I have grown close to the people at Miami Cigar Company and La Aurora Cigars I still strive to bring a variety of reviews from across the board. It just so happens that MCC had the most new releases under there brand and distribution at this years trade show. I still have to review the Art Deco, La Aurora Corojo, La Aurora 107 Lancero, and La Sirena. Not to mention the video review (which is more of a political statement) of the Tatiana Cigars because I lost a bet to Tatiana.

I am not sure how the masses feel but …

Cigar Review: Carlos Torano Master

Master by Carlos Torano

I think going into the trade show and for people in general the most looked forward new release from Torano now that they went solo was the Single Region. So needless to say the Master was an afterthought for me, and it might get lost in the shuffle as people will be reaching for the Jalapa Valley stick. But it is my opinion that might be a mistake.

The Master is a joint effort between Carlos Torano and master roller Felipe Sosa and comes in four sizes Robusto (5 x 50), Torpedo (6.25 x 52), Churchill (7 x 50) and Toro (6 x 54). The cigar is described by Toraño as “having a bold, rich flavor … it’s for the man with a seasoned palate, a cigar that fully satisfies after an opulent meal or an evening pairing with spirits. True aficionados will discern and appreciate the balanced flavor and body.”

Friday News: IPCPR Version

ipcpr

There are so many updates that I decided to come back a day early. Here are some memories and information about new cigars. The list is long and will continue tomorrow as well.

I guess everyone wants to know how IPCPR and to be honest I found it a little overwhelming even with crowds much lighter then normal. I pretty much took a lot of time to be a spectator and I wandered the floor looking at new products and only taking the time to introduce myself if the person was not busy. After all this is a show for retailers first, press second.
