Cigar Commentary: Resting Versus Aging cigars

Hand_roll_Cigars

Sometimes, when I go out, I’m at an event where there is a cigar roller who is rolling fresh cigars. I’m always fascinated by it because I get to experience first-hand, what it takes to create a hand-rolled cigar.

I just hesitate a bit before I light up a freshly rolled cigar. Here are my thoughts about smoking a freshly rolled cigar. On the one hand, cigar rollers can simply be mesmerizing. It’s pretty cool to be able to see the bunch, and to inspect the wrapper. It’s almost like participating in the culture of the factory rollers’ culture. Smoking a stick right off the bench is a great way to experience what the rollers can often experience when they’re working.

FDA Involvement Must Be Stopped!

The possibility of dark days for the tobacco industry is closer to a reality then ever before, but as retailers, consumers, and manufacturers the future is also bright if we get involved.

In 2009, President Barack Obama passed the Family Smoking & Prevention Act which left a loophole for the FDA involvement in the premium cigar industry. The law gave the FDA regulatory authority over all tobacco products, but to branch beyond cigarettes and smokeless, the agency must seek expanded authority. That is what they are doing with cigars, and why they must be stopped. If the FDA gets involved the way we enjoy our right to smoke will be changed forever. Prohibition 2.0 will become a step closer to reality.

It’s that time of year where there is nothing more relaxing then walking the back 9 with your cigar in hand. Especially, if you managed to hit that perfect tee shot and are set up for a birdie to move under par for the day. OK, so that last part was a fantasy as I doubt many of us are scratch golfers. I happen to be a bogey golfer (18 handicap) but I will still play from time to time to escape the pressures of life.

A few weeks ago we wrote how Macanudo and Excalibur teamed up with Callaway to give away 2 golf bags a week. Well this week they are teaming up with acigarsmoker.com to give away a bag to a lucky reader… Here are the details on our Handicap Contest….

State of California: State of Prohibition for Tobacco?

Ok, I, for one, am very tired of these restrictive smoking bans. But the most recent proposed smoking restriction legislation takes the cake for being ridiculous.

A California State Senator Mark DeSaulniers, D-Walnut Creek, and Assembly Member and Chairman of the Majority Caucus, Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, have proposed a terrible piece of legislation that would close almost every exemption to enjoying cigars in California.

Outdoor Smoking Ban Approved in New York: Great Neck, NY

Oh no!!! It’s started. The outdoor smoking bans have claimed its first municipality as its first victim. Great Neck New York, a town that closely borders New York City’s Queens, has approved a sidewalk smoking ban. This ban is aimed to prevent all smoking in public – banning smoking on sidewalks in the 1.4-square-mile village – with fines of up to $1,000.

Cigar Mondays @ Vetro NYC

New York City has some of the greatest cigar lounges around despite growing legislation that makes it more difficult to enjoy a piece of luxury. The sun is shining, a gentle breeze is blowing and the last thing you want to do is sit inside a cigar shop as summer passes you by. Thankfully rooftops lounges have been popping up, some of which are cigar friendly and I think I have stumbled across one of the best.

News/Review:Pepin to Produce Cigar for Davidoff NYC GM

IMG NY Store 1.325

Last week at the event we ran on the rooftop of Rick’s Cabaret the general manager of Davidoff NYC stopped by. During the course of this event Michael Herklots handed Tom from Cigar Reader and myself an unbanded cigar. As the oily wrapper had my eye he explained that he was working with the Pepin family on a new cigar that would be sold exclusively at the Davidoff shops in New York City.

This past week acigarsmoker.com hosted a party in NYC at Rick’s Cabaret that was well attended.  Under the the shadow of the Empire State Building we enjoyed a nice comfortable night at the futuristic looking rooftop smoking lounge on top of Rick’s Caberet. Each person in attendance was given either a Dunhill Signed Range or [...]
