Room 101 LTD Namakubi – Cigar Review

Room 101 Namakubi - Band

Room 101 cigars originally debuted to mix reviews. However, Matt Booth worked hard and developed a cult following. The cigars grew in popularity and seemingly they got better. Last month acigarsmoker.com was with the Room 101 Connecticut and we eagerly awaited the release of the Namakubi.

According to Room 101 Cigars the story of the Namakubi is based on Samurai culture and is believed to live on in spirit within certain groups. In ancient times when two Samurai clans would gather for competition there was a great deal at stake. Normally, the losing party would die as a result of wounds sustained in battle or be executed upon defeat. The Namakubi, or freshly severed head of the losing party would be prepared on a wooden tray then tagged in a regimented manner and presented to the leader of the winning clan as a gift.

Tatuaje 7th Capa Especial – Cigar Review

Tatuaje Capa Especial Band

The 7th Capa Especial is a new release from Pete Johnson over at Tatuaje. The 7th has been available in a Habano wrapper from Ecuador with the 7th Reserva featuring a Connecticut Broadleaf. The Cap Especial version of the 7th features a Sumata wrapper.

The change between the 3 cigars is amazing, and proves the importance of the wrapper on a cigar.

News: 262 To Expand Portfolio

262_Classic_standard_1600_1200

The revolution continues to grow over at 262 cigars who recently contacted me the other day to let me know what future holds for the company. I first smoked the 262 Paradigm last year and I was pretty impressed by this new boutique cigar. In 2010, I got to spend some time with Clint Aaron the owner of 262 while at IPCPR and we developed a friendship that continues to grow to this day. If I make it back to IPCPR this year I look forward to cutting and lighting one with him again.

Don Diego Fuerte – Cigar Review

IMAG0186

the new Don Diego Fuerte by Omar Ortez certainly packs a wallop. About as subtle as a heavyweight boxer, the Don Diego Fuerte is highlighted by a select Ecuadorian Cubano wrapper surrounding a superb Nicaraguan binder and powerful blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler tobaccos. For almost 50 years, Don Diego has been synonymous with high-quality mild- to medium-bodied cigars, but the new Fuerte, created in Nicaragua by cigar master Omar Ortez, is the brand’s first venture into robust, fuller-bodied smokes.”

Fonseca_CXX_Band

According to the distribution company of the Fonseca CXX, “In the year 1891, a Cuban by the name of Don Fonseca gave his name to the delicious cigars he manufactured and the Fonseca brand was born. Over the past 120 years, a period spanning the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, Fonseca has become a world re-known brand. In celebration of this important moment in history of Fonseca, Sag Imports will be releasing 120,000 cigars in three different sizes.

Quesada Espana – Cigar Review

Quesada Espana

The Quesada Espana is currently available only in Spain, but there were some floating around the Pro Cigar Festival. Thanks to a friend I was able to get a sample of these to smoke. As of now the Quesada family is undecided if they should release these in the American market as well. The cigar is blended to fit what the Spanish smoker wants. They prefer cigars with lighter wrappers and smaller ring gauges. As a result these come in a corona (5.5 x 42); short robusto (4 x 50); and a traditional robusto (5 x 50) The cigars sell from €5.50 to €6.35.

Although the cigars were aimed at the Cuban taste profile, the cigar is meant to stand on its own, so that the Spanish smoker will find it comparable with his regular Cuban smokes.

Cain Daytona 646 – Out of the Box Cigar Review

caindaytonaband

A short while back Charlie Minato of The Cigar Feed posted a wish list of sorts, and one of the items was a request reviewers let a cigar sit in their personal humidor for 30 days before they review it. An excellent idea except for one thing, when a new cigar is released the race is on amongst bloggers to get it reviewed in a timely fashion. For the most part it is a friendly competition, as there is a camaraderie among many of the sites we read on a regular basis. But as pointed out by Brian Hewitt of Stogie Review, “[I] have noticed significant changes in mere weeks of rest, especially with new sticks.” So I figured my plan is this, when a new cigar is released I will review one vitola right out of the box, and a different size in about 30 days. While this might create a little repetitiveness in the website it should be more fair to everyone involved from manufacturer to retail shop owner, and the consumer.

Cigar Review: La Aurora 107 Corona

107tn

I had my first Aurora 107 Corona while on a trip to Santiago, Dominican Republic when myself and other bloggers went out to eat with the Aurora Cigar Co. While we dined at Nano’s a humidor full of cigars was presented for us to enjoy and in inside was about 50 or so Corona 107s. Needless to say there were none left come the end of the night. Well the time has come for these to be released to the masses and here is my take on them.. Remember don’t just take my word, try them for yourself and let me know what you think…

About 10 days back or so I reviewed the G.A.R. Lux which was a bundle cigar from George A Rico. When I received that cigar I also received today’s smoke from the local rep while I was at Barrister Cigars in New Jersey. As I said in my last G.A.R. review I am a huge [...]
