Press Release: Quesada Q d’etat

printscreen copy

The Q d’etat line represents a symbolic revolt against the unfair taxation practices and mistreatment of the premium cigar industry. The brand is intended to create awareness of the dangers increased government regulation and taxation will produce, specifically the FDA’s desire to regulate premium cigars. There will be three sizes, released at different dates, of 1,000 ten-count boxes. Each box will contain a form to register for membership in Cigar Rights of America. The first of the three sizes is a figurado called the “Molotov” and will be released in January.

Event: Smoke Out Paley Park

Due to modem issues with Verizon at my home office there will be no review today, however there is an event taking place today that all smokers in NYC should attend. With the smoking ban in place that prohibits us from lighting up in a park, at the beach or in a pedestrian mall such as Times Square it is important that we stand together today, as one.

According to William Paley,

Press Release: Cigar Rights Responds to NYC Ban.

The Cigar Rights of America wasted no time with a quick response to the smoking ban in NYC. The following comes from their website.

Mayor Bloomberg and Speaker of City Council Christine Quinn Need to Hear from YOU!

Cigar Rights of America has learned that contrary to earlier statements by New York City Council, Mayor Michael Bloomerg and Speaker of City Council Christine Quinn intend to press for a vote on their comprehensive outdoor smoking ban, that affects city parks, beaches, and major pedestrian thorough fares. Also in earlier statements, a vote was not anticipated for several months. The vote may be today or tomorrow. ACT NOW.

I still support the CRA

It has come to my attention that some people believe that I am against the CRA and I do not support the CRA. This is false. While I have had some differences of opinions with the direction of the CRA I want it to succeed. The work being done by Glynn and Brian is long, hard and tedious and without there work our rights to smoke would soon be abolished if left unchallenged.

I had let my membership lapse mostly out of uncertainty of the effectiveness of the fight of my home state of New York, but it has come to my attention the countless hours put in to stop a smoking ban in New York City. These efforts have brought me back and I have renewed my membership.

The Cigar Rights of America is our voice and should be supported by anyone who smokes cigars. $35.00 a year to have someone speak for you isn’t a big price and I recommend being a member of this group.

I have never stopped being a CRA supporter, and sadly my voice was misinterpreted otherwise.

It’s Time To Speak Up…

its-time-to-ca-final-web

Over the last few days I have spoken to my good friend Gary J. Artz about the CRA, Cigar Rights, and everything under the sun about cigar smoking, America and our rights in general. We have also spoken about the things that friends normally chat about. I respect his view on the CRA and I look forward to his next article on The Arzt of Cigars where he tackles the anonymous posting about the CRA that appeard on my site the other day.

Despite our differences on the CRA and a friendly debate on various issues concerning the group we both agree that it is the only game in town and they provide a voice for us when we cannot get an audience.

Reports from the Floor: IPCPR Recap So Far

Guest post by Tom Johansmeyer of Cigar Reader. This week, I’m helping Barry with news from the floor of IPCPR. He’s been kind enough to send me notes, tweets and e-mails with the latest that’s happening in New Orleans, and I’ve been publishing over on Cigar Reader. Every day, I’ll come over here and put [...]

Cigar Review: Ashton VSG CRA Edition

The Cigar Right of America offerd a 10 pack of cigars to it’s members for a rediculous price and I jumped on it. According to the CRA website, “Ashton Distributors will offer CRA members a memorable experience using 4-5 year old Dominican tobacco and an Ecuadorian wrapper. Ashton Distributors Vice President Sathya Levin stated, “Ashton [...]
