Event: Michael Herklots Birthday & Charity Fundraiser

The Carnegie Club

For the last six years Michael Herklots has opted to celebrate his birthday differently then many. Instead of making it a day about him, he chooses to give back to the experiences that made him the person he is today. As a graduate of Killingly High School he knows first hand how funding isn’t always there for the students as states struggle to pass budgets that often remove programs. Each year he has put together a stellar fundraiser that makes those in attendance happy to give to the cause.

Cigar Review: Gurkha Para la Gente

gurkhaparalagenteband

As more and more manufacturers come out with cigars for the New York Market which is suffering from a 75% tobacco tax I wonder how long before some other states ask for the same treatment. The latest New York exclusive is from Gurkha who this week released the Para la Gente (For the People) cigar with a big party at De La Concha in NYC. Sadly, I was unable to attend the event but my friend Danny from Tobacco Plaza in Long Island managed to secure me a couple of samples.

I never met a Gurkha that I liked and I was hesitant to smoke today’s cigar but I was happy to see that Gurkha had the consumer in mind and these cigars which are available in bundle format are cheaper than the other releases to come down the pike lately. The Gurkha Toro for instance is $8.00 however, it is available as a bundle only and not in the lavish boxes Gurkha is know for.

An Interview with Jesus Fuego

I am trying to figure out how I got wrapped up into becoming a true media blogger. First I did a video interview and now an audio interview with Jesus Fuego who was gracious enough to take some time with us to talk about his cigars and the upcoming event at De La Concha on [...]

IPCPR Update: Opening Day

Guest post by Tom Johansmeyer of Cigar Reader. Here’s the latest from Barry, who’s out in New Orleans, working the floor at IPCPR. The IPCPR show officially kicked off yesterday, and the conversations Barry Stein, of A Cigar Smoker, had with cigar companies indicate that the crowds were a little lighter than usual. Also, the [...]

Event Recap: Drew Estate Dinner @ De La Concha

_MG_5726

In the grand scheme of things I have not been smoking cigars for long. Sure 15 years doesn’t make me a novice, but it wasn’t long enough to truly enjoy the art of cigar smoking when it wasn’t considered taboo by society. I missed out on fine dining and being able to light up a cigar afterward. I missed out on being able to light up in a bar as I sipped my Johnny Walker Blue. I really had no idea what it was like to smoke in a time where I wasn’t considered a second class citizen.

That is until last night.

Cigar Review: De La Concha House Cigar

De La Concha

Someone once asked me how I get so much information on a particular cigar. Well the answer to that is I tend to read a lot on-line about various products and I try to retain as much information as I can. The other important thing is to talk to shop owners and sales reps in the business. The are a vast knowledge of information.

Today’s cigar I just found out about earlier this week when it was mentioned by the Manager of De La Concha, Ron Melendi over on twitter.

Cigar Review: De La Concha Grand Reserve

I’ve been to De La Concha on 6th Avenue between 56th and 57th street numerous times but until the other night I was not aware of the house cigar. When GM Ron Melendi joined our monthly cigar club over at Club Macanudo for cigars, food and drink he brought with him some of these sticks [...]
