Event Recap: Delaware Cigar Festival

As the fall weather began to take hold in the Northeast the stage was set for the 5th Delaware Cigar Festival, organized by Gary Griffith. Gary who is associated with Cigar-ette City and the creator of Emilio and Grimalkin cigars put on a clinic on how a cigar festival should be run.

The event was held at Delaware Park under cloudy skies with the likes of Arielle Ditkowich, brand manager for La Sirena Cigars, Eddie Ortega from EO Brands, Clint Aaron of 262 Cigars and numerous reps from Rocky Patel, JC Newman, Drew Estate, Altadis, Oliva, Kristoff, Perdomo, La Flor Dominicana, Cigar Rights of America, Miami Cigar, General Cigar and The Cigar Agency.

Press Release: Rocky Patel & EO Brands

News came down the pipeline today officially announcing the release of some new EO Brands, and Rocky Patel sticks. While some of this has been around for a while, the press release I guess makes it official.

La Bomba – Pre-Release – Cigar Review

LaBombaFuse

The latest offering from Eddie Ortega and Erik Espinosa, collectively known as EO Brands is the La Bomba. There first new release since joining the Rocky Patel stables, should rest any doubts about their relationship with the My Father factory. In fact, when I had a chance to talk with Eddie Ortega for a few minutes at Cigar Fest the first thing I asked him was, “who made the cigar”. That answer was My Father.

I guess I should be fair and give Eddie and Erik a little grief since we got on the case of a certain manufacture about his lack of originality. La Bomba looks like a Pepin firecracker, not so much in size but rather because of the long fuse pig tail cap. But I guess we will also let them slide because after all they are part of that family.

In Memoriam: Gary J. Arzt

GJA

Born in February of 1941, Gary J. Arzt has seen more then I could ever imagine before his passing the morning of April 2nd, 2011.

I first met Gary through a series of emails in the winter of 2008/2009. Gary reached out to me to let me know he had been reading my site and enjoyed it very much. We discussed a love of cigars and Gary had told me how manufacturers had begun to take note of me. He helped broker the first ever advertiser I had on this website, and he put me in the eyes of Miami Cigar & Company who I have developed a close personal relationship with over the years. I owe a lot to Gary J. Arzt.

News: 601 & Rocky Patel Edicion Limitada

601

It seems that due to popular demand Eddie Ortega & Erik Espinosa are changing the bands on the 601. After the redesign there was a lot of complaints about how they looked and some took the band change as the sign of a new blend. The new redesign looks like the original with some minor changes and I am sure customers and retailers are happy to see this.

In other news Patrick Vivalo, the sales executive from Rocky Patel emailed me that once again there will be a release of the Decade Edicion Limitada. Like last year, these will be limited to 500 boxes of each size; Robusto, Toro & Torpedo. The sticks should start to appear in Brick & Mortars this week.

News: Revised 601 Bands

Earlier this week we posted the first look at the new artwork for EO Brands cigar the 601. I was lucky enough to be sitting down to lunch with Eddie Ortega and my distinguished colleague Tom Johansmeyer from CigarReader.com when some of the comments started to come in. I informed Eddie about the comments and he said that due to many similar comments the bands would get slightly reworked.

Below I share with you the artwork that will grace the 601 Series of cigars…

Cigar Review: Cubao Maduro

I discovered these cigars a little bit later then most of the cigar world. I fell in love with them at one of my favorite shops, Fume Cigars in Montclair, NJ. I found out recently my pronunciation of cu-bay-oh was a butchering of the proper way. The correct way direct from Espinosa & Ortega themselves [...]

Cigar Review: Murcielago

The first time I smoked one of these was at the Cigar Inn event this past weekend. Eric Espinosa asked me if I ever tried one of them and he made sure before I left that I would smoke one. One cigar, and I was hooked. So much so that I ran out and bought [...]

Event Review: Miami Cigar Extravaganza

The boys at Cigar Inn definitely know how to throw a party. On Saturday December 12, 2009 I decided to head into midtown Manhattan to check out the Miami Cigar Extravaganza with my good friend and business partner Sonny who has contributed to this website in the past. I was eager to obtain a box [...]
