FDA Involvement Must Be Stopped!

logos

The possibility of dark days for the tobacco industry is closer to a reality then ever before, but as retailers, consumers, and manufacturers the future is also bright if we get involved.

In 2009, President Barack Obama passed the Family Smoking & Prevention Act which left a loophole for the FDA involvement in the premium cigar industry. The law gave the FDA regulatory authority over all tobacco products, but to branch beyond cigarettes and smokeless, the agency must seek expanded authority. That is what they are doing with cigars, and why they must be stopped. If the FDA gets involved the way we enjoy our right to smoke will be changed forever. Prohibition 2.0 will become a step closer to reality.

News: Dennis Rodman Launches WB Cigars

Dennis_Rodman_Cigar_01

Like every year, there seemed to be lots of new releases at this year’s IPCPR. But this year, there’s one special new commer that stood out. Looks like NBA-all star Dennis Rodman is coming out with a new cigar. I’m not sure if he actually had a booth at the IPCPR but he was definitely in his element, being the heart of Las Vegas nightlife.

See the pictures below? He was launching his WB Brand Cigar line and handed out boxes of cigars to partygoers.

Here’s a brief description of the WB Cigars:

El Primer Mundo Epifania – Cigar Review

El Primer Mundo Epifania Band

Sean Williams the owner of El Primer Mundo is one of the nicest guys you can meet in the industry. While his cigars are relatively new they have slowly begun to expand into many cigar shops around the nation. Last year we were pleasantly surprised with the Primer Mundo Liga Miami so when we got some samples of the Epifania we were eagerly awaiting smoking them.

The Epifania translates to Epiphany in Italian and was made in Calle Ocho, Miami, Florida at El Titan de Bronze which has become a hotbed of exquisite smokes. The question is does this cigar fit that trend, or has the famed factory hit a speed bump in the road of success.

Cigar reviews will resume on Monday as I had a bout of the summer flu, thankfully it twas the week before IPCPR and there were more press releases then one would know what do with. This morning I woke up to 3 separate press releases from different divisions within Prometheus. The items from Prometheus have proven to be true collectors items with some rare Opus releases, and one of a kind blends. This year seems to be no different and I’ve highlighted some of the top releases…

Casa de Tobacco by La Flor Dominicana

Casa de Tobacco by La Flor Dominicana

I got my hands on some cool information this morning about a new product from La Flor Dominicana. This is definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen produced to date. The House of Tobacco is the barn type structure in which tobacco is cured in.

This incredible piece of functional art will officially be unveiled at IPCPR in 2 weeks. The Casa De Tobacco will also serve as a…

BigRifle

Recently some bloggers have been sent some samples on the new sticks from Nimish Desai and while normally I wouldn’t post a review based on un-banded samples I was blown away from the samples sent. While many details won’t be known until an official press release later this week, this is what we do know. The cigars will be available in 3 sizes and retail for between $5.00 and $6.00. Speak Out! Keep the FDA out of your Humidors!

eagle_flag2

It seems every year politicians preach about making government smaller, but yet it seems to get bigger and bigger. The latest mind-boggling issue is that the FDA wants to get involved in the cigar industry. When will enough be enough? It is time to stand up to the local politicians and put our foot down while we still have a voice to do so. The land of the free, is not so free anymore my friends.

As Obamacare inches further toward reality, the government will look to control various aspects of the issues they consider to be a burden on the health care system. First is various forms of tobacco. We’ve lost the right to smoke in various places including our own private property. If we don’t stand up here, what will be next. In the 1900′s the people stood up to prohibition, and it is now time to stand up to prohibition 2.0.

Q & A with Jose Blanco

Jose, thank you for taking the time to teach me more and more about tobacco everytime we meet. As a fellow Yankee fan we share a common bond that is only surpassed by our love of cigars. I look toward the time when we can sit back and enjoy a cigar together.

News recently rocked the cigar world that Jose Blanco was stepping down from his position at La Aurora and retiring. Now that the dust has settled we got to catch up with Jose Blanco who is currently enjoying himself on a European vacation. During our brief conversation, one can read between the lines and say he left the door open a bit for a return to the cigar industry and this might not be the end of his career.

Cigar Education Sells Cigars

tobacco_cert

Selling cigars is not about selling cigars. More often than not, it’s about the feeling a smoker gets once he (or she) purchases that cigar (says Christian Eiroa). Sometimes, the cigar smoker expects a little more at a brick and mortar store. That little something extra can be the shop keepers’ personalities, cigar blending sessions, or even deeper knowledge about …

An Open Letter to the IPCPR

IPCPR_2009

Since last year I have heard some rumblings that IPCPR would be changing the process for sites like acigarsmoker.com to attend the annual trade show and convention. The rumblings have ranged to we wouldn’t be able to attend, to joining IPCPR and now it appears the final decision has been reached.

Cigar Bloggers will be held in a different light then traditional members of the press and we will have to undergo a screen process and pay $150 to attend the show. This is after the money we spend to fly out to the show, and pay for a hotel.

It prompted me to write this letter for the IPCPR powers that be.
