Cigar Review: Augusto Reyes Sixth Generation

augustoreyes_band

When I got back from IPCPR I put this cigar in my to smoke soon humidor because I was really curious about the cigar. I met Augusto Reyes Sr. and Jr. on day one of the cigar show and I was really intrigued. Not only were they both down to earth but Jr has this energy about him that screamed excitement about the cigars and the show. Well needless to say more stuff kept piling on top of it, and the cigars got lost in the shuffle. The cigar was launched in June of 2010 and was blended by Jr for his father. Even though they stole a page out of the Pepin’s playbook it is always nice to a homage to a parent.

I believe the Reyes Family was a supporter of the Twitter Brother Of The Leaf Cocktail Hour, so kudos to them for donating sticks to an amazing event.

Cigar Review: Torano Single Region

Back at the trade show I was given samples along with Jerry Cruz from Stogie Review as Bruce Lewis took us around the Torano booth. One of those samples that I loved and reviewed a few weeks ago was the Torano Master. The following week I broke out the samples for today’s review and both of them were plugged. I wasn’t going to mention this on the website because the Torano Family was nice enough to send me more samples. Don’t worry about those samples being plugged because storage and weather at IPCPR New Orleans was less then optimal. I only mention this because I saw a few people mention draw issues from the show samples, and I wanted people to know that the second samples I got were perfect.

Yesterday I wanted to write about the brotherhood but with various site issues I had to put the post on hold. But the amount of people looking to help me out with the issues of the site just proves our close the brotherhood and sisterhood of the leaf is. This was evident in New Orleans with the Twitter Bother of the Leaf Cocktail Hour put together by Chief Hava & Stogie Review. With manufactures donating cigars (for a complete list go here) to be given out at the event it is obvious some members of the press are accepted at IPCPR.

With 120 people including people from twitter, cigar manufacturers and the good people of Dos Jeffe the cigar bar that held the event we laughed, we drank, we smoked and we listened to good music. It is sad that our politcians have lost sight of the this basic freedom that so many fine americans have enjoyed and continue to enjoy in some municipalities.

Some people have asked me why I think IPCPR was so empy this year. To be honest I am not sure if it was empty or not since this was my first IPCPR. However, if I had to venture a guess the answer would be in thre parts.

1. The new releases were made public a while ago, and there was really nothing major coming out this year. CAO’s La Traviata Maduro has been around the net for a while now. Camacho only had a revamped Room 101…

Guest post by Tom Johansmeyer of Cigar Reader. Here’s the latest from Barry, who’s out in New Orleans, working the floor at IPCPR. The IPCPR show officially kicked off yesterday, and the conversations Barry Stein, of A Cigar Smoker, had with cigar companies indicate that the crowds were a little lighter than usual. Also, the [...]

After a week off the Sunday links have returned. Over the past few weeks you have heard me talk about an incident at my old smoking spot. While I won’t go into details about that because it got out of hand and I have respect for the owner as a person it did however open [...]
