Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial is a limited edition cigar released yearly and truly a treat with only 30,000 cigars produced with a different size created each year. This complex blend of Nicaraguan long filler tobaccos with a specially fermented Jalapa Valley ligero held together by a Nicaraguan binder. The cigar is then finished with high priming San Andres maduro wrapper grown in the fertile San Andres valley in Mexico.

Pete Johnson has returned with his version of the Monster Mash…. Each and every Halloween he returns to his lab to create a new monster, and hopefully a graveyard smash. The Wolfman is the 4th release in the series with the 1st being the Frank, 2nd Drac, and 3rd The Face. In the second year there was also an actor’s series release in the Boris. The cigars are released in 666 dress boxes (shaped like a coffin) and 1300 regular boxes of 10.
I recently drove to Philadelphia with some friends, and hung out with Pete at Holt’s on Walnut before heading to the Oyster Bar for dinner. Over the course of the day we discussed his music career, future releases, and IPCPR. When I arrived there were only 4 non-dress boxes left, and within 5 minutes those were gone.

Ive been a fan of EP Carrillo since their cigars first landed on the market. Even though the 2009 Limited Edition was met with mixed reviews on-line I was a fan and it only grew with each product I smoked. The Elenacos, Maduro, New Wave Connecticut, Short Run 2010 and Short Run 2011 as well as the Limited Edition 2010.
Each year EP Carrillo release a cigar in one size but in a different blend each year and this year is the fullest body of the 3 Limited Edition cigars released to date. This years release is limited to 2,000 boxes all of which were pre-sold at IPCPR. Ernesto Perez Carrillo was the original creator of La Gloria Cubana and now runs his own company based in Miami and are an advertiser on this site. The above reviews were written before that, and todays review is based on a couple of cigars I picked up at Cigar Inn in New York City.
The TAA stands for the Tobacconist Association of America is based out of Chicago, Illinois and was born in 1968 by visionary retail tobacconist. They meet yearly, with the next meeting in 2012 in Los Cabos (America group, meeting in Mexico, go figure!). To find out more about the TAA visit them on the web at http://fujipub.com/taa/. This is the first year Tatuaje has released a cigar that is available only through TAA members. Room 101 cigars originally debuted to mix reviews. However, Matt Booth worked hard and developed a cult following. The cigars grew in popularity and seemingly they got better. Last month acigarsmoker.com was with the Room 101 Connecticut and we eagerly awaited the release of the Namakubi.
According to Room 101 Cigars the story of the Namakubi is based on Samurai culture and is believed to live on in spirit within certain groups. In ancient times when two Samurai clans would gather for competition there was a great deal at stake. Normally, the losing party would die as a result of wounds sustained in battle or be executed upon defeat. The Namakubi, or freshly severed head of the losing party would be prepared on a wooden tray then tagged in a regimented manner and presented to the leader of the winning clan as a gift.

Today’s smoke is the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition. According to Uptown Cigar Company,
With a total of only 3,700 boxes made, this is the first limited edition cigar made solely by Master Blender Jaime Garcia. A Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper from a lower priming, a Nicaraguan Pelo de Oro binder, and 2 Cuban-seed Nicaraguan leaves for the filler, this full bodied smoke has a similar taste to the original Jaime Garcia, except the cigar is MUCH richer and more refined in depth and flavor.
The cigars come 16 in a box, with a twist. The Broadleaf wrapper is on 15 of the sticks, while 1 features a Connecticut share which might be the wrapper used in 2012.
o far 2011 has been a good vintage for Smoke Inn. Earlier this year the man behind the chain of tobacco shops in Flordia launched the first of his microblend series with the release of the Tatuaje Anarchy. The cigar which has really done well with age was followed by the Padron 6 x 60, a first in that ring gauge for Padron.
The third installment of the 4 part series is from My Father Cigars and called the El Hijo. The cigar will feature a select 2009 harvest Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with binder and fillers from Nicaragua. The cigar will come in a 5.5 x 52 with an unfinished foot. Only 650 boxes of 15 are being made, and the cigar is labeled as medium to full-bodied. Pre-Orders are now being taken over at Smoke Inn, and they are selling fast so get your order in today!

One of my favorite cigars last year was the Short Run from EP Carillo. Like many limited editions they tend to disappear and you are left wanting more. Well, the time of the year has come for the 2011 Short Run to be released and I picked this up from Buckhead Cigar. Since the inaugural release in 2009 I have become a huge fan of this company.
The Short Run 2011 has been released in 3 sizes. They are Bombones (4 7/8 x 50); Canonazos (5 7/8 x 52) and Inmensos (6 1/4 x 60). I believe they retail from $6.00 and up. This year’s version uses a Ecuadorian Habano wrapper compared to the Sumatra last year.
About a week ago I was on the phone with a friend telling him that I was going to order some M80′s while I was riding the elevator in my building. What happened was almost comical as an older woman overheard me, and began yelling at me about fireworks being illegal. I tried to explain to her it was the name of the cigar but the woman didn’t want to hear it. This new tenant made my life hell over the next couple of days as she called the new landlord to tell him I was selling fireworks. As I was driving to work I got a call from the offices of my landlord telling me that if I am selling fireworks I would be evicted and reported to the police. I told the office this was the name of a cigar, and the woman made something out of nothing because she only heard part of a personal phone call. Over and done with right? Wrong!. The next day one of the partners that own the building called me saying he never heard of the cigar and he was a cigar smoker. Well after convincing him to call Two Guys Smoke Shop to ask about the M80 he relented and I haven’t heard from him since.
In 2010 I gave the My Father Limited Edition cigar of the year despite it’s hefty price. I was totally caught up in the mystique surrounding the cigar. I mean how often do you get to smoke a cigar that was bunched by Jaime Garcia and rolled by Jose Pepin Garcia. The original concept called for production to be extremely limited and a once in a lifetime deal. So I was a bit surprised to hear the LE was coming back in 2011 but this time without the special buncher and roller taking part in the cigar.
I picked up a couple of the My Father LE 2011 from various shops in 2 different states.. How does it compare to last year? Read on my friends!

About 5 weeks ago Steve Valle from Smoking Stogie hit me up with some limited release cigars and when I saw today’s stick in the package I knew it would be the review for Cinco De Mayo. Normally I do not like to review a cigar based on one stick, but I had it in my mind I would use this cigar today and I followed through. Also, I doubt I will ever come across another so getting more for review wasn’t realistic.
The Tatuaje Celebracion De Cinco is a limited release of 100 boxes made for a shop in Fresno, CA named Cigar Mas Fino. The cigar which is based upon the Havana VI Noble has a subtle change to it which Pete Johnson describes as making a huge difference. He went on to add that the cigar is “an age worthy smoke”. At this point I am having second thoughts about lighting up my only stick.
