Event Recap: Primo Cigar Shop, Santa Fe, NM

This past week I took a flight out of New York to escape for a while with some friends in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A place I’ve been to once before that had me eager to return. With the mountains in every direction and low humidity I was able to kick back and relax while taking part in the re-branding/re-opening of Primo Cigar Shop. The shop which is open daily from 11-7 features a walk in humidor full of the top brands and a large selection of pipes and pipe tobacco is truly heaven on earth when the surroundings are taken into consideration.

News: Nestor Miranda to Release New Cigar at IPCPR

qa1

Last week on Twitter, Miami Cigar & Company released a tweet of a box pressed cigar that was being smoked. The cigar, which was labeled a test blend had many curious to what it was. Well, tonight that cat is out of the proverbial bag.

The Nestor Miranda Grand Reserve will be released in a limited edition of 1,000 boxes. The cigars made at the My Father factory under the watch of Jose Pepin Garcia, will feature a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, with a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The cigars come hot on the heels of another Miami Cigar & Company release which utilizes similar components, La Sirena.

These box pressed beauties will be 6.25″ x 52 in a torpedo vitola and are expected to retail at or below, $10.00 before local taxes. The cigars will be made available to order in Las Vegas at the annual IPCPR trade show which begins July 17th .

More details as they become available.

Project “Para Japón” by La Aurora – Support for JAPAN

The following comes from our good friends at CigarExplorer.com…

On March 11, 2011, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit the island of Japan — the biggest earthquake in Japanese official record. The tsunami that followed caused unprecedented devastation on a level unseen by the Japanese people since War World II.

The voices and images of desperation have struck deeply in the hearts and souls of the Dominican people whom, for many decades, have built a close bond with Japan. La Aurora Cigar Factory has echoed the expressions of solidarity of its employees and suppliers, and is glad to announce the creation of a special edition cigar to help the humanitarian response to this disaster. “We are very pleased to lay our helping hand to our brothers of Japan by supporting the humanitarian assistance to this great nation,” says Guillermo Leon, President of La Aurora. “When hurricanes have struck the Dominican Republic, Japan was there for us,” Leon added. Proceeds from the sales of this cigar will be donated to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief fund through JAPAN TOBACCO IMEX CO. LTD.

I just read up on Saint Valentine on the web, and there is nothing to suggest that this martyr of the Catholic church has anything to do with the traditions of modern Valentine’s Day. The feast of St. Valentine first occurred in the year, 496 and it was established by Pope Gelasius I. In fact no one really is sure who Saint Valentine was as he appeared in various martyologies. Throughout history he has been described as a priest in Rome, a bishop or priest in Interamna or a Martyr in the Roman province of Africa. Knowing that what I am about to say isn’t sacrilegious makes me feel more comfortable knowing that God will not strike me down for this view, but I will probably further secure my seat in hell. For me, I picture hell as being a room full of excellent cigars but not having anything to light them with.

Breaking news: Wedding Bells for La Aurora and Miami Cigars?

Happy Holidays!

I just got back from a holiday party at the Cigar Inn in NY and boy do I have some news for you! Here’s a sneak peek on how things may look in the near future.

Cigar Review: La Sirena

La Sirena

La Sirena is the newest cigar to be distributed by Miami Cigar & Company and it is being produced by the My Father factory in Nicaragua. If that wasn’t reason enough to be excited. the cigar features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. But before we get into the particulars allow me to give you some back story about this cigar.

I first got to smoke a few of these when the concept was coming close to reality. Having known brand ambassador Arielle Ditkowich and her family for some time I was asked to try one and that first one left me less then impressed. But then again any cigar short of the mildest of mild would of done that time. It was 11:00 I hadn’t had my morning coffee or breakfast. The strength of the cigar was multiplied at that time of the morning. Well fast forward a few weeks and I smoked one under proper smoking conditions and it was at that time I fell in love with these sticks.

Trip Review: La Aurora Cigar Factory – Final Thoughts

aurora1 1280x1024

As you can tell from my recaps of day 1, day 2 and day 3 the time spent with La Aurora was a chance of a lifetime that left an impression on me that I will not soon forget. It has taught me that learning about tobacco is a never ending process and while you may all trust my reviews of cigars I still have a lot to learn. I will be taking what I learned to help make this a better website for you to visit. There are certain aspects of the trip that really caught my eye that did not make it into the previous postings so I will leave you with my final thoughts and tomorrow I shall return with a review.
