San Cristobal Elegancia – Cigar Review

San Cristobal Elegacia Band

I was talking to a friend who owns a retail establishment and he believes the days of the ultra strong cigar are behind us. Now, while I can appreciate a full strength cigar this would be music to my ears. Lately, the cigar companies have released one nicotine bomb after the other and the body of the cigar has suffered tremendously. I know many will disagree with me, but it feels like the art of cigar making is becoming a lost art.

Made in Nicaragua by My Father Cigars for Ashton Distributors, the San Cristobal has begun to ship to stores after it’s debut at IPCPR in Las Vegas last month. The cigar comes in 5 sizes and will retail for under $7.00 before local taxes. The cigar is being released as a Churchill (7 x 50 / $6.85); Corona (5.5 x 46 / $5.95; Imperial (6 x 52 / $6.75); Pyramid (6.25 x 52 / $6.90) and Robust (5 x 50 / $6.40).

Tatuaje 7th Capa Especial – Cigar Review

Tatuaje Capa Especial Band

The 7th Capa Especial is a new release from Pete Johnson over at Tatuaje. The 7th has been available in a Habano wrapper from Ecuador with the 7th Reserva featuring a Connecticut Broadleaf. The Cap Especial version of the 7th features a Sumata wrapper.

The change between the 3 cigars is amazing, and proves the importance of the wrapper on a cigar.

Event Recap: Primo Cigar Shop, Santa Fe, NM

IMG_8163

This past week I took a flight out of New York to escape for a while with some friends in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A place I’ve been to once before that had me eager to return. With the mountains in every direction and low humidity I was able to kick back and relax while taking part in the re-branding/re-opening of Primo Cigar Shop. The shop which is open daily from 11-7 features a walk in humidor full of the top brands and a large selection of pipes and pipe tobacco is truly heaven on earth when the surroundings are taken into consideration.

Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Super Gordo – Cigar Review

jaimegarciasupergordoband

When I first heard that My Father Cigars planned to release a new cigar in this massive jaw-breaking size I rolled my eyes. To be truthful, I dreaded having to smoke it for review. I am not a fan of big ring cigars except for a few here and there. Well, this past weekend my friend Danny from Tobacco Plaza told me that they got these in stock and that they were great. Typical salesman, right? Well, like me Danny prefers cigars with a thinner ring gauge, and we have become friends so there is no reason to lie to me about how good or bad a cigar is. He knows, that if they get them first I will drive out to his shop. Well, as luck would have it he seems to get everything first.

My Father “S” Special – Cigar Review

myfatherspecialband

A few months back at an event in De La Concha I was hanging out with many cigar all-stars when I asked Jose Ortega what the S cigar was, and he explained it was a cigar given out with the purchase of cigars from My Father. Since it was a joint event that day with Miami Cigar & Company I took advantage of deals on the La Sirena and La Aurora 107 and I missed out on getting an S. Those who know me, know I will almost never ask for a cigar directly but I asked Jose if he had any extra around and sadly he did not. He informed me some of the My Father staff would be joining us at Cigar Inn later and he would try to get me one.

You know winter is coming to an end when Spring Training begins in Florida and Arizona. Sure we all love our winter sports like football and hockey, but nothing beats the nightly ball game and a cigar with your favorite adult beverage. As a Yankees fan this spring is a little different then the past. We knew who our 5 starters were, who was going to make up the bullpen and the only position up for grabs was utility infielder. This year as a fan of the Bronx Bombers things are a little different. Who will be the backup catcher, who will fill out 4 and 5 in the rotation and who will win the 4th OF slot as well as the utility infielder. It’s that time of the year to make predictions so here we go.

Event Recap: La Sirena Pre-Launch Party

With the official launch for La Sirena a few days away (Friday Nov. 19th) a soft launch was held in Long Island for friends and family. The event started at 3pm at Tobacco Plaza in Great Neck where people got to spend time with Arielle the brand manager for this new cigar made in the My Father Cigar Factory exclusively for Miami Cigar & Company. Also on hand was Guillermo Leon a long time friend of the store which features the La Aurora Lounge to promote his new signature cigar and Jason Wood from Miami Cigar.

After some Zafra rum and Presidente was consumed at Tobacco Plaza a cast of 100 people headed over to OEVO Restaurant where we smoked, drank, ate and laughed while enjoying some great cigars that consisted of the Leon Jimenes #4, Guillermo Leon Signature, 1495 Connecticut, 107 Robusto and of course La Sirena.

Cigar Review: My Father Le Bijou 1922

Today’s cigar is a release I have been waiting for since it was announced. Le Bijou is French for “the jewel,” and 1922 refers to the year Jose “Pepin” Garcia’s father was born. The original My Father was created in secret by Pepin’s son Jaime, who conceived of the cigar as a tribute to his [...]

Cigar Review: My Father Lancero

I decided to do a little impromptu review tonight while chatting with some cigar bloggers on stickam. It’s amazing how the love of a good smoke can bring people from across the USA together. Joining me tonight was Justin from lasvegASHtv.com, Tom from TomsCigars, Stew from The World According to Stew, Mike aka Agent 6 [...]

Cigar Review: My Father (Don Pepin)

Well the man with more blends on the market then anyone I can think of has done it again. Although this cigar was released in September, it is first showing up in cigar shops around town and on the internet as well.  This blend is the result of a family effort as it is created [...]
