La Flor Dominicana Air Bender Maduro – Cigar Review

Air Bender Maduro - Band

Last week Nat Sherman hosted the launch of the Air Bender Maduro which as of now is only available as part of Casa de Tobacco. The Casa de Tobacco will also serve as a Humidor and is made from rattan and leaves from the plantain. It basically looks like a scale model of the curing barns that are in the tobacco regions of the Dominican Republic. Production is limited, and the MSRP is $350.00.

At the event I got to talk with Litto and while there are no plans currently to release the cigar as a stand alone, he wouldn’t be surprised to see it as a regular release down the road. Since Litto makes all the tobacco decisions I think it is safe to say the cigar will become a regular release.

Nat Sherman Hosts Litto Gomez to Launch Casa de Tobacco

Last night, Nat Sherman hosted an event for Litto Gomez and the new release for La Flor Dominicana, Casa de Tobacco. There were two parts to the event. Edward was lucky enough to ask Litto some questions at the first part, the sit-down press-release.

Casa de Tobacco, as reported earlier, is a miniature version of a tobacco curing barn. A tobacco curing barn is where moisture leaves the tobacco leaves in a temperature/humidity-controlled environment. This process is important because this is where the leaves start to decompose and start a series of chemical reactions that give tobaccos their flavor.

Nat Sherman Flagship Store

Nestled between the high-rises of midtown Manhattan on the avenue you I’m taking you to, 42nd street, stands a lone townhouse. The townhouse is home to the self-proclaimed tobacconist to the world, Nat Sherman. The company which was born during the great depression in the 1930s has managed to stay in business for over 80 years. It has, in a sense become an icon in the world of tobacco.

I lit up my first cigar 13 years ago and I will be the first I am still a little wet behind the ears. Perhaps it is because I have not ventured out and broadened my horizons. During these 13 years I have been to Nat Sherman a total of 4 times, including yesterday, despite living within 10 miles of the store.

Q & A with Jose Blanco

Jose, thank you for taking the time to teach me more and more about tobacco everytime we meet. As a fellow Yankee fan we share a common bond that is only surpassed by our love of cigars. I look toward the time when we can sit back and enjoy a cigar together.

News recently rocked the cigar world that Jose Blanco was stepping down from his position at La Aurora and retiring. Now that the dust has settled we got to catch up with Jose Blanco who is currently enjoying himself on a European vacation. During our brief conversation, one can read between the lines and say he left the door open a bit for a return to the cigar industry and this might not be the end of his career.

Event Recap: Kentucky Derby With Nat Sherman and Esquire

Esquire Derby Madison Park 310

The glorious aroma of fine luxury tobacco can be detected from an entire block away. I felt a bit like Toucan Sam as I followed my nose to the third annual Kentucky Derby celebration at Eleven Madison Park. Once I got there, I realized that the cigar smoking lounge was situated right at the front entrance of the party. At the lounge, there was a cocktail bar and…

Event: Michael Herklots Birthday & Charity Fundraiser

The Carnegie Club

For the last six years Michael Herklots has opted to celebrate his birthday differently then many. Instead of making it a day about him, he chooses to give back to the experiences that made him the person he is today. As a graduate of Killingly High School he knows first hand how funding isn’t always there for the students as states struggle to pass budgets that often remove programs. Each year he has put together a stellar fundraiser that makes those in attendance happy to give to the cause.

1946 was an era where men still wore suits to the ballpark, strolled the streets wearing a fedora, held open a door for the ladies and most of the time all while having a cigar in their mouth. The original Born Yesteday debuted that year, when the average cost of a new house was $5,600, gasoline was 15cents, and Alaska suffered a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that caused 60 foot tsunami waves in Hawaii. 1946 also saw the introduction of the car phone and a patent was issued for the microwave oven. The first bikini made it’s debut in Paris, Cannes Film Festival began, as did the musical careers of Dean Martin, B.B. King and Bill Haley.
