As the Cigar Rights of America is in Albany doing battle on a flavored tobacco ban and trying to negotiate a cap on the tobacco tax word came out today that the New York City Council is expected to pass a ban on outdoor smoking.

According to the New York Post city lawmakers are ready to ban smoking in over 1,700 parks and 14 miles of public beaches in a vote today, February 2, 2011. This comes after the ban of smoking in bars and restaurants that was put in place back in 2002.

Backers of the ban say that even brief exposure to secondhand smoke can pose health risks while many smokers say the law would infringe on their rights.

This ban comes hot on the heels of a similar law passed in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Cigar Review: Alec Bradley New York

I write this review sitting in my freezing apartment. About 6 weeks ago my building was sold to new owners who have been far less then generous with the heat. The thermometer on my desk says the room is currently 59 degrees. My fingers are cold and despite wearing socks and shoes so are my toes. I have to wonder if this is some sort of plan of the new owners. It seems prior to them buying the building the old ownership did not rent out new apartments, and at last count there were about 7 empty apartments out of 96. Well once the sale was completed the empty apartments remained and no effort has been made to rent them.

Such is the life in New York. 75% tobacco taxes and having to fight for heat on a 27 degree night

IMG NY Store 1.325

Last week at the event we ran on the rooftop of Rick’s Cabaret the general manager of Davidoff NYC stopped by. During the course of this event Michael Herklots handed Tom from Cigar Reader and myself an unbanded cigar. As the oily wrapper had my eye he explained that he was working with the Pepin family on a new cigar that would be sold exclusively at the Davidoff shops in New York City.

Event Review: Ricks Cabaret

On Tuesday night June 15, 2010 acigarsmoker.com once again hosted a cigar smoking party on the rooftop of Rick’s Cabaret in NYC. Thanks to Joe Diamond we were contacted by Rick’s over a year ago to write about their rooftop lounge. The article was such a success that Rick’s invited me back to host a party. Now one year later we revisited the party and I am happy to tell you it was a success.

Event: Rick’s Cabaret Night!

Ricks-Cabaret-Girl-Giselle

Last year we were contacted by Rick’s Cabaret to review their rooftop lounge and the good folks at Rick’s were happy enough with the review where they allowed me to set up a private party utilizing the lounge. The event was such a success that people were talking about it all year and asking me when the next event will be.

Well the time has come as acigarsmoker.com will be hosting Girls & Cigars Under the Stars II on June 15th from 6pm to 10pm. We will be providing a cigar to the first 30 people in attendance and you are more then welcome to bring your own as the good folks at Rick’s have no cutting fee.
