Breakfast at Drapers for this year’s Little Puff

Little-Puff-2011-Save-The-Date

It looks like there’s some buzz about this year’s “Little Puff” in Washington DC. The little puff is only little name and it’s actually kind of a big deal:

The “Little Puff” is Draper’s signature fundraiser, an intimate gathering of cigar lovers (limited to 300 people). Proceeds from ticket sales and the auction benefit three local academic scholarships (The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship in honor of a Navy SEAL killed in action; The Pat Krimm Scholarship & The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship).

Q & A with Jose Blanco

Jose, thank you for taking the time to teach me more and more about tobacco everytime we meet. As a fellow Yankee fan we share a common bond that is only surpassed by our love of cigars. I look toward the time when we can sit back and enjoy a cigar together.

News recently rocked the cigar world that Jose Blanco was stepping down from his position at La Aurora and retiring. Now that the dust has settled we got to catch up with Jose Blanco who is currently enjoying himself on a European vacation. During our brief conversation, one can read between the lines and say he left the door open a bit for a return to the cigar industry and this might not be the end of his career.

Event Recap: Primo Cigar Shop, Santa Fe, NM

IMG_8163

This past week I took a flight out of New York to escape for a while with some friends in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A place I’ve been to once before that had me eager to return. With the mountains in every direction and low humidity I was able to kick back and relax while taking part in the re-branding/re-opening of Primo Cigar Shop. The shop which is open daily from 11-7 features a walk in humidor full of the top brands and a large selection of pipes and pipe tobacco is truly heaven on earth when the surroundings are taken into consideration.

Two Guys Smoke Shop

Salem NH (April 18, 2011) – Two Guys Smoke Shop of Salem, Nashua, and Seabrook, New Hampshire will be celebrating its 26th Anniversary on September 21, by giving away a classic automobile, a 1936 Cadillac Fleetwood.

Two Guys, a popular New England Cigar Shop has not only become known for its great retail cigar shops but also for its elaborate anniversary events which have included everything from giving away motorcycles, a Hummer H2 automobile, elaborate trips and cash. They’ve hosted game show presentations and put together a mixed martial arts event. Padron 1964 Anniversary SI-15 Maduro – Cigar Review

When opposites collide is the best way to sum up the meeting of Smoke Inn & Padron. In one corner stands Abe “MING” Dababneh who learned the power of social media and bloggers with the release of the Tatuaje Anarchy. In the other corner stands Padron , who has yet to embrace the power of bloggers and social media while continuing to rely on out-dated print publications thato are no longer in touch with today’s smoker. Perhaps this is why Padron went from being my benchmark cigar to getting lost on the shelves of my local tobacconists. Out of site, out of mind.

According to the press release sent out by Abe, “In commemoration of our 15th Anniversary this year, we commissioned the Padron Family to make a special size exclusively for our stores. Jorge Padron’s face lit up when we told him our idea of a 6×60 Anniversary Cigar. What’s better than a Padron Anniversary Cigar, A BIGGER Padron Anniversary Cigar! This monster stick bellows smoke like a chimney. The sheer amount of tobacco used in this cigar creates a bold experience differing from the other vitolas in this line. All tobacco used in this limited production series is aged for four years, creating a smooth and complex flavor. There was less than 500 boxes produced of this limited edition, so don’t waste a second and get a part of cigar history today! ”

We review the Natural on March 31st, and today we offer our opinion on the Maduro.

Cigar Review: Padron 46 Years Natural

padron_46_years2

46 Years. The Padron Family has been making cigars since 1964 which is, 46 Years. That is a hell of a long time in business, though it shadows some of the other big names in the business. In the past my bench mark cigar was the Padron 1964 Principe Natural; but over time Padron fell of the radar for me. I think that is largely in part because as a reviewer I am always looking for a new cigar and to maintain brand loyalty is hard. Also, add to the fact that Padron hasn’t really been social media friendly they haven’t been in my eye as much as when I used to pick up a print magazine which I never do anymore.

Last year the 45 Years won cigar of the year from Cigar Aficionado and this year they are hoping to repeat. My top 3 are pretty much set in stone for my own list which will come out next month but will this cigar change that?

Cigar Review: Padron TAA Maduro

padron_taa_tn

Trying to track down information on today’s cigar turned out to be a chore. From what I can tell the Padron TAA was made exclusively for 40 stores that make up the Tobacco Association of America of which Uptown Cigar Company is a member. While not on their website I believe they still have these sticks in stock.

So being that it has been a long time since I smoked a Padron 1964 and once considered them to be a favorite of mine. I am curious to see how much my palate has changed since the time where I considered the Padron Principe my benchmark cigar.

Cigar Review: Padron Family Reserve

The Padron Family Reserve has begin to hit the shelves of tobacconists around the world. The cigar is meant to celebrate the company being in business for 45 years and is nicknamed “The Hammer”. The Padron Family Reserve comes in both the natural and maduro wrapper and are in boxes of 10 cigars. My local [...]

Cigar Review: Padron 1926 40th Anniversary

After suffering a sprain of my left foot last night I decided to drown my  pain in the Padron 1926 Serie, 40th Anniversary Natural cigar. The Padron 40th Anniversary Torpedo is part of the exclusive Padron 1926 line and is even more rare, with only 16,000 released every year. Cigar Aficionado made the Padron 40th [...]

Cigar Review: Padron Principe 1964

Before I begin let me say this cigar is considered to be my personal all time favorite cigar. In my mind there is no better cigar on the market today. So with the break in the heat wave, and the temperature at 6:45 am being 78 degrees I placed this baby in my shirt pocket [...]
