Cigar Review: PDR 1878 Cubano Especial Capa Natural

pdrcnband

When Pinar Del Rio first burst onto the cigar scene a few years ago they weren’t met with a lot of love. The cigars had a cult following but general acceptance among cigar smokers was slow to come, at least in my neck of the woods. Well over the last year or so Abe Flores has slowly taken Pinar Del Rio to the next level. Having run into him at Cigar Expo held by Famous Smoke Shop I remember how happy Abe was about his new products and he gifted me with a few smokes including my first ever culebra.

Fast forward from May to August and again I ran into Abe Flores down in New Orleans in his home shop of Don Leoncio cigars and I fell in love with the 1878 Capa Madura. So a few weeks ago when Abe reached out to me to smoke his new cigars I was all for it. Today is the Natural version and next week we will review the Oscuro.

Cigar Review: La Aurora Corojo

IMAG0321

When people ask me what I thought the best cigar was at IPCPR I usually answer one of two cigars. One of which is today’s review, the La Aurora Corojo. Sadly though I had no idea this cigar was coming out til I got one at the booth of the trade show. My focus was on the Guilermo Leon Signature and I hope this one does not get lost in the shuffle of my fellow smokers.

The La Aurora Corojo comes in 5 different sizes. The Aurora #4 (5.25 x 43), Belicoso (6.25 x 52), Double Corona (7.5 x 50), Gran Corona (6.5 x 50) and the Robusto (5 x 50). MSRP is $5.60 to 6.80 a cigar before any taxes.

Cigar Review: La Reloba Sumatra

relobalabel

A few weeks back I reviewed the Habano release of the La Reloba from My Father Cigars. Released in May of 2010 these cigars pretty much popped up under the radar. The Nicaraguan Puros are available in Corona, Robusto, Toro and a Torpedo. The best news is the cost of these cigars which will be under $6.50 a stick MSRP.

How does the Sumatra compare vs the review of the Habano? This is my take and I encourage you to give these cigars a try to formulate your own opinion and let us know what you think.

Cigar: La Reloba Sumatra
Size: 5 x 50 (Robusto)
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Sumatra

Cigar Review: D’Crossier Golden Blend

D'Crossier Golden Blend

I was recently gifted a variety of samples from Pure Aroma Cigars Inc. Included in those samples was the D’Crossier Golden Blend which is aged 7 years. The website which is incredibly done states, A perfectly made cap and richly colored wrapper make this noble cigar one of the finest of our collection. The construction of this robusto is virtually flawless, the draw is ample and its aromas summon aged wood and cocoa beans. With a delicate burn that leads you through a blissful ebb and flow of sensory delight, the palate can appreciate an intricate blend of fresh grass and rich earth aftertastes with a touch of almonds, walnuts and a hint of salty-sweetness. A connoisseur’s smoke that can certainly be appreciated by novices alike.”

Does acigarsmoker.com agree with the above assessment? C’mon inside to find out!

Cigar Review: Alec Bradley Prensado

Today’s cigar comes from the boys at Ashes Tobacconist. The store recently changes owners and is becoming a great cigar shop once again. The Alec Bradley Prensado is a new stick that debuted at the IPCPR this year. Alec Bradley has really grown in the cigar world with their Tempus and SCR lines, the question [...]

Cigar Review: Super Selection 12

I know the cigars I have smoked lately have been a little repetitive due to the fact I recently went to the Davidoff of Geneva shop on Madison Avenue in New York City. Today’s smoke was a cigar shown to me by the General Manager, Michael Herklots who I first made acquaintance with on Twitter. [...]

Cigar Review: CAO La Traviata

The La Traviata brand began its life at the turn of the 20th Century in Cuba or, more precisely, in the Tabacalera Cubana, Agramonte no. 106, in Havana.  Over 100 years later, CAO has resurrected the La Traviata name, abiding closely to its original Cuban roots in presentation and taste.  CAO La Traviata is a [...]

Cigar Review: Rocky Patel 1961

Today’s review comes sans picture courtesy my good friend Tony who used to run leafandgrape.com. Well he has relaunched his review site under the name SmokeScore.com so be sure to check it out… The Rocky Patel 1961 line of cigars was introduced at this year’s IPCPR and commemorates Rocky’s birth year of 1961. The 1961 [...]

Cigar Review: Alec Bradley Family Blend

I broke down and bought a netbook the other day so I could write reviews from the road and do research for my job. So far I love the unit but I feel like if I lean on it I will break it. I first came across this cigar at Fume Cigars in Montclair, NJ [...]

CIgar Review: CAO Bratalia

I was originally going to save this cigar to smoke with Jery Cruz and the boys from stogiereview.com this weekend at the IPCPR but due to some family issues I had to bale at the last minute. A part of me is second guessing my decision to do so but I know I made the [...]

Cigar Review: Vegas Cubanas

This was the very first Don Pepin cigar I had about 5 years ago. When the rep came into a store I worked at he said that Pepin cigars would be the hottest cigars on the market in a few year s and I thought it was just typical sales BS. Well, since then Pepin [...]

Cigar Review: Cabaiguan Robustos Extra

What cigar would you like to see reviewed? Today I had a hard time deciding what to review so I turned to a friend who pointed out I reviewed the Guapos but never the shade grown so with that little tidbit I decided to review today’s cigar. Cabaiguan is produced in Little Havana which is [...]
