Easter Sunday Links

bugsasgroucho

Easter Sunday is a day to reflect on religion, enjoy time spent with friends and family as well as smoking a cigar if you are lucky enough to get one in. For me this takes on a whole new meaning as I converted to the Catholic religion many years ago. Growing up in a Jewish family that was relaxed in its beliefs I went to Hebrew school to learn about the religion and to have a Bar Mitzvah. However, that was a path I never wound up going down. Perhaps it was due to an abusive teacher or the language but I asked to not go through with it and my parents reluctantly agreed…

Yesterday I wanted to write about the brotherhood but with various site issues I had to put the post on hold. But the amount of people looking to help me out with the issues of the site just proves our close the brotherhood and sisterhood of the leaf is. This was evident in New Orleans with the Twitter Bother of the Leaf Cocktail Hour put together by Chief Hava & Stogie Review. With manufactures donating cigars (for a complete list go here) to be given out at the event it is obvious some members of the press are accepted at IPCPR.

With 120 people including people from twitter, cigar manufacturers and the good people of Dos Jeffe the cigar bar that held the event we laughed, we drank, we smoked and we listened to good music. It is sad that our politcians have lost sight of the this basic freedom that so many fine americans have enjoyed and continue to enjoy in some municipalities.

The last Sunday of July and I am fed up with the heat. It really has exhausted all my creativity and the ability to write not that I ever had that ability before. So this week I will cheat some and offer up to you the cigars I think are in the running for cigar of the year. The top 6 in no particular order are:

Father’s Day. A day to spend with dad either in person or in spirit. Today i reflect back on the days I spent with my dad when he was still alive. I remember the times we played catch in the park. I remember the day he wore shorts to a baseball game in September when the temperature was 40 degrees. I remember the day I saw him talking into a spoon as if he was DJ announcing a song that just came on the radio. I remember the first time we shared a drink together. I remember the day he explained to me how the penalty kill works in hockey for umpteenth time. I remember the day he took a bible with him to teach me to drive because he needed all the help he could get. Today is a day to reflect on dear old dad, but it should not be the only day. Life is short, and sometimes things are taken from us way to soon. Enjoy it while you can, but never forget it either.

So this morning I got woken up at 5am by NYPD ringing my apartment doorbell. It turns out they thought my car was broken into according to the neighborhood watch people. Only problem is my car is in a garage. So at 5am I went with the officer and determined my car was not broken into. Nice way to start the day. I am glad we have a neighborhood watch and I applaud NYPD for taking auto crime seriously. But a 5am wakeup call is not how I want to start my Sunday.

Happy Easter everyone, and Happy Passover. In New York cigar smokers have been crucified by big government. Just 12 days into the month and we have been hit with a 42 cent S-CHIP federal cigar tax as well as an increase in the state cigar tax from 37% to 46%. A Cigar that cost 10.00 [...]

As I prepare this blog entry the night before its posting spring is once again in the air. It is currently 53 degrees which feels a lot warmer after a cold winter. Team USA has won it’s first round game against Canada and the regular season draws closer every day. As a Yankee fan I [...]

There is a saying that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. That is the case here in the Northeast. Monday they are predicting 8″ of snow, and I for one welcome it. Winter does not feel right to me without a major snowstorm, and NYC has yet to have [...]

Another week has come and gone. We were teased this week in the Northeast on Wednesday with ideal smoking conditions. It was a gorgeous 70 degrees, and sunny. Soon the days of shuffling about and finding a place to smoke in the cold will be gone and that can’t happen soon enough. I don’t know [...]
